Lower Bomber Eny
« on: January 22, 2011, 04:18:15 PM »
Since buffs are truth be told probably of more strategic value for moving the map and for overwhelming the low numbers side than any given fighter, I propose that their ENY numbers be reconsidered. Right now the B-17s and B-24s are 20eny, while the Lancs are 15. I propose that the Big 3 should have ENYs of 5-10, and that level bomber ENY be adjusted across the board accordingly. This will 3 beneficial effects IMO. First, it will help the low numbers side in the war, since the enemy will have less effective planes with which it toolshed them into submission. Second, it will give greater perk rewards for the often boring, difficult, and unglamorous job of high CAP/buff intercept. Third, it will cause lesser bombers than currently see almost no use in the MA to be flown more often. Thank you, that is all.

That effects scoring as well though.
I've long thought that OBJ should be locked out the same way ENY is.
Beside bombers, this also helps for attack aircraft: you could put say the OBJ on the Bf 110G down fairly low so it still gets locked out, but if you want to use it as a fighter it has a more realistic ENY score.

The purpose of ENY  in side balancing is to deprive the opposition of the more effective tools in the plane and vehicle set. The best bombers are the most effective tools for moving the map. Ultimately, in the "war" fought in the mains, the big 3 buffs probably matter more than whether or not the opponent has access to Spit16s and P-51s. It is thus logical to bring their ENY down.

ENY is good where it is. Bombers are so notoriously easy to kill that noobs climb right up the six of bombers without fear! I mean after all... you get a brand new plane right after you hit the tower right?

It's not hard to kill them, it just takes really long when they are at 20K+.

If they're at 20k then you get rid of them for at least 2 hours.  no need to waste bullets.

I get a kick out of the A> "Fear of Change" crowd.  God forbid if you'd have to adjust your game play a wee bit because the Lancs and their 14k bomb load was not available; and B> "Bombers are so easy to kill" crowd.  Perhaps, but how often do the bombers get shot down prior to dropping payload?  The ability of a flight of heavy bombers to bring up the white flag, take out multiple hangers, and/or a combination of both, sink CV's easily, etc, etc, should be well noted.  It is their offensive capability that should be measured, not their defensive capability.  Just as in the real deal the mission planners were thinking destruction, not how easily they'd get shot down.  That is what escort fighters are for.

I've vouched for a lower ENY and/or a slight perk price to the 3-4 most devastating heavy bombers in the game.  It would make the bomb-n-bail crowd think twice about bailing; stop the turn on a dime and lose the drones crowd as they circle a field; and it would hopefully make the stuka-hvy bomber crowd hesitate before diving in to a CV, over a gv spawn, etc/  Something like a 5 for Lancs, 4 for B24's, and 3 for B17's.  Maybe even a 1 or 2 for B26's, the jury is still out on that one.

What else do we spend bomber perks on?
