Mysterious Dr-1 Lever

Ok so when i move the rpm lever on my controls, the lever on the bottom left side of the cockpit in the Dr-1 moves. i know the prop is fixed pitch so it cantbe for rpm. A friend told me it is for adjusting the mixture, but power does not change when i move it around at altitude. So my question is what is this lever for and does it really do what it is meant for?

Oh no! Not the "Wings Stay On / Wings Fall Off" lever.  :O

I get it now.  He's asking why the mixture handle actually moves when you press the keys that adjust rpm in the WW2 birds.  Anyway, I tested it out.  It doesn't do anything, but it's fun to play with if you like moving levers.

It's funny because the rpm keys don't move the mixture handle in the Camel, just the Dr1.

well that sucks because that could give someone a real edge in a fight if they know how to operate the mixture properly. more power at altitude and the option to take less fuel up when doing a sortie to name a few.

Sorry Der Jude, I meant to get back to you sooner.

As has been said it's the mixture control lever but appears to have no in game function. As far as I'm aware the mixture control is automatic in AH, so you wouldn't see any benefit by doing it yourself.

I found a brief description on the operation of the mixture in these early aircraft for you, but as olds442 says, it would be too real for most.

Thats an interesting read Sid. Sounds like if it were that realistic we would have alot of complaints from people losing their engine power in basic flight. Maybe its better that its totally automatic. I guess the only question left to answer is why the designers of the Dr-1 in the game felt it necessary to program a useless lever?
