Special Events Schedule Feb 8 - Feb 14
« on: January 30, 2011, 10:17:31 AM »
Tuesday February 8th, 2010 10:00pm Eastern in SEA I - Aces High eXtreme Air Racing League - Season 22 Race 02. Scheduled host is BMathis.
Hopefully you flew the Season opener last week, and you earned some points towards qualifying for the Finale after Race 12. If not, it's still early in the season, but don't wait too long to come race with us.
On this date:
1918 - The Army newspaper, “The Stars and Stripes”, begins publication for a second time. The first paper called The Stars and Stripes was a product of the Civil War, put out by four Union soldiers in 1861. Using the facilities of a captured newspaper plant in Bloomfield, Mo., they ran off a one-page paper that made just one appearance. The World War I edition first appeared late in the war in Paris. It was produced weekly by an all-military staff to serve the doughboys of the American Expeditionary Force under General of the Armies John J. "Black Jack" Pershing.

Wednesday February 9th, 2010 10:00pm Eastern in SEA II - This week’s snapshot is "Raid to Norway" hosted by mrmidi.
This week's Snapshot is "Raid to Norway" hosted by mrmidi. An act of sabotage which became famous and possibly had an effect on the outcome of the war, was the attack on the heavy water plant at Vemark, in Telemark county. Here, Norwegian soldiers, trained in the UK, were sent into action near the small town of Rjukan, where Norsk Hydro produced heavy water, a liquid chemical, which the Germans needed for the development of an atomic bomb. Although the Germans guarded the plant, the production facilities were destroyed. Heavy water which was en route to Germany was also destroyed, at the cost of many Norwegian civilian lives. Though no known Mosquito raid took place in WWII to destroy the storage of heavy water facilities this Snapshot is based on fictional information that the Canadian and Royal Air force may have acquired and acted on.
Snapshots are walk on events and all are welcome. Forums are located Here

Refer to recon photos of the targets and bomb the actual targets which were attacked 70+ years ago.  File after action reports like the pilots at the time did using historically correct forms.
