If I were an RAF fighter pilot during WW2...  I would allow the bomber to touch down in England, I wouldn't of allowed it free passage back across the channel though.

In Aces High... If I come across a target which is limping back home, I will leave it be. Unless I was the one who made it start limping ofc, then the bast@rd dies!

I think it would be ironic if that bomber had just come from egging his home town killing his wife and children.

If I was over my territory, and colud force them to land and be captured alive, then I would try that only if it in no way possible would put me at risk.  Not out of Chivalry, but because live prisoners might have intelligence value from iterrogation.

Chivalry, and other schoolboy, have no place in war.  Kill every single one.  Relentlessly.  Every. Single. One. Until they are gone, or surrender unconditionally.

That story is touching.  
The biggest difference is that bomber in the story was at alt and not 50 ft off the ground in an NOE mishunz with 50 of his closest twits, In AH nothing says chivalry more than trying your best to avoid combat and winz da warz by all means necessary....   :rolleyes:

This story actually reminded me of a return trip from a bombing mission (was all alone and not part of a horde btw) and had survived multiple passes from a lone FW 190. I had sustained heavy damage and was trying to land a few kills but I was still fairly deep in enemy airspace so it was not looking real good for me, however, the darndest thhing happened. That FW190 nudged up to my wing and escorted me back to safe territory, even calling off a few red guys looking for an easy kill. A big <<S>>  :salute to that player, Wolfala to be exact, for his act of chivalry tho it be a cartoon game.  :) Hopefully he doesn't get in trouble with Shawk for letting an LTAR live  :confused: Anyway I thought that was cool and am sure anybody else here would have appreciated it.

I could have lived without the guys additional commentary at the end of the story.  War was just as bloody and unfair then.  Were there acts like that story that took place?  Sure.  But for every one of those that tells us how stupid war is, when that fighter pilot had time to assess the act he was potentially going to commit, there were a hundred where some horrific act took place instead.

Sadly the horror that is war.  Thankfully in our little cartoon world, we don't have to decide to really take another person's life.  I can't begin to imagine how hard that would be.

Personally when a guy is out of the fight and no longer a threat I'll let him go.  But that's me. 

If I'm about to land a shot up bird, my wheels are down, and I'm on approach and I get shot down I think 'jerk' but, again, that's me.

I'm sure many of us have read about this story before, and it is a good one.  However, what Kazaa said struck me.  What if the situation were reversed?  What if some Spitfire or Hurricane pilot had allowed a severely damaged He-111 to lumber back to France after bombing an English city?  Stigler seems to have received a lot of praise for his action.  What would we think of an RAF pilot who did the same?

I can't honestly say I would reach the same conclusion in each case (whether it's praise or condemnation), but I feel like I ought to.
