Ingame download very slow!
« on: January 30, 2011, 02:58:50 PM »
Hi,

Every time a terrain update or a game update is released i have to download it through the game becuase the website is not updated it time...
So when i start downloading a game update or terrain update from the game updater, its very very slow! i'm talking downloading 2-3MB in about 3 hours, and then even that sometimes gets stuck.

This means i cannot play due to this problem, I would hate to close my account becuase of this problem! but if there is no solution it leaves me no choice but to do that... i just cannot play!

Hope theres a sulotion,
Thanks for any help

what kind of connection do you have? Dial-up, cable, fiber, wireless? Some connections are faster than others. I have cable and download a new terrain in less than a minute or two last night.

2.5 mbps is kind of slow for a cable connection.  I was getting bogged down in the evenings, when the neigborhood went online after dinner.  My "usual" 8-10 mbps dropped to 1-2.  I plugged my PC directly to the modem and got 10-20 mbps, so I replaced my 10-year-old router and now get 10-20 all the time.

So, I would suggest a brief test of direct to your modem download from HTC and see what you get.
My Current Rig:
GigaByte GA-X99-UD4 Mobo w/ 16Gb RAM
Intel i7 5820k, Win7 64-bit
NVidia GTX 970 4Gb ACX 2.0
Track IR, CH Fighterstick, CH Pro Throttle, CH Pro Pedals

Hi,

Thanks for the replys!
I tried connecting my pc to the cable modem directly, still no change...

It must be something else, but I don't know what to test

I'd like to see a DXDIAG output of this computer.  It could be resource issues.

Did you disable any anti-xxxx software and try it?

It doesn't look like a resource issue to me, but I'm not the guru that Skuzzy is. Oh, and just for future interest, if you send something to Skuzzy and don't hear from him in 24 hours (72 on weekends, give the guy a break  :D) he didn't get what you sent, or your email put his reply in your spam folder.

Next step would be to get PingPlotter. It's a free program. Install it and ping the servers at Hitech Creations. This 206.16.60.41 is the game server at HTC, I'm not sure what the download server address is.

just at a quick glance.. you need to trim down some processes/services and I aslo recommend updating your SB soundcard driver to a more recent stable soundcard driver

will look over it more to see if I missed anything.......

Thanks for the replys!

I will cut down the processes, and update the soundcard driver... but it still doesn't explain the slow download in the ingame updater.

for example - right now i wanted to go online, theres an arena with over 300 people in it, but i have to update the terrain which is smpizza.res, as indicated on the updater... i checked on the website and the most recent terrain of smpizza is of last year, therefore i cannot download it any other way! right now the download is bearly moving... i mean its only 2.1MBs! i normally download that in a few seconds.

It most be something with router/port forwarding maybe even certificates... is there maybe a way to use a proxy that will fix this?

This is a zipped version of the smpizza map. I was just in there yesterday so it should be up to date.

try DLing this one and unzip it to your AHter folder. and see if you can get in that way

I'd suggest running a ping plotter to the game servers and seeing if you have any dropped packets along the line (suspect you will have). If you are losing packets, downloads will be sloooooow.

Ping plotter here (free and legal) http://www.pingplotter.com/freeware.html Pingplotter should be run against 206.16.60.39

OK, so now we know that you have a descent connection and for the most part you really don't have a problem DLing things. Next would be to try ping plotter to see how your connection to the servers at HTC are.
