Recommended Capture Program?
« on: January 31, 2011, 11:52:28 PM »
After filming in AH, what is the better recommended program for
editing and getting screen shots?

Fraps? Or are there others that you would recommend?

Thanks..Ping.

AH film is the best way to play back footage because it has very little impact in-game.

You run FRAPs live while fighting/flying and you could bog yourself down (and if you bog yourself down you have a good chance to start warping on others' screens.

Only problem is you don't black out on film. For most situations that's acceptable in order to save on performance hits.

P.S. Yes, many recommend FRAPs, but record from the film viewer rather than in-game. I tried GunCam and was not impressed at the 2-stage process and the performance hit.

Screenshots from the film viewer, just use prnt scrn and paste into Paint.
Film, like Krusty said, use fraps.

hey guys.....i haven't bought the full version of fraps yet......but it does indeed cause a performance hit when it's run in combat. IF you record to your hd.
if you set it up to record to an external hd, there seems to be no serious hit.

Ping, if you want to get only screenshots, it's best to use the AH film
viewer. On the right side there is a group of buttons, one labeled "full
screen". Click this, and use your in-game keys (such as your view
keys and your zoom keys) to get the desired angle. Then you can hit
the Print Screen button and paste that into a program such as
Paint or GIMP to save it.

Film Viewer + Print Screen button works well. It's free, and gets your hands dirty learning how to work with graphics.

latest version of fraps doesnt take a big hit on performance as before.  I used it today for the first time, fps stayed in the high 40's to low 50's. with cv ack and lots of cons around.

strip off to the right of your main keyboard usually above the insert home and page up keys, you should see a key that looks like

prtScrn
Sys Req

I hope that helps.

the lack of a full keypad or at least a SHIFT/whatever double-key function is probably my biggest beef with my macbook. my dad's smaller one actually has 'double function' keys on the right for the numberpad and associated stuff.

my newer/bigger one doesnt (facepalm)

i guess my best options are
a) full usb keyboard
b) send films to flashdrive, use computer with keyboard to take SS, migrate back to my computer (lol)

thanks for the tips/advice though.
somehow this reminds me of when parent/significant other asks you to go bring them something that isnt there lol
