Tropical Cyclone Yasi
« on: February 01, 2011, 03:14:34 PM »
Yeah, Queensland is about to get whacked by a category 5 cyclone. This is a deal similar to Katrina in New Orleans some time ago. Thousands of people evacuated and more hunkered down in various shelters all over the state. Its going to cover from townsville to cairns with winds up to 280 KMH and enough destructive energy to power the whole world for 2 years.

We have a few Queensland players here in the AH Community and I recently went up there for Airforce ROTC (AAFC Here) so I have made quite a few friends who live directly in its path.

Asking for well wishing, especially after the floods that devastated the state a month ago.

"May have to cancel the barbie."

I hope everyone makes it out safe. Katrina was a devastating occurrence and I hope you guys get less of an impact than HK had over here.
Good luck, stay safe.

It would be kinda-similar to Katrina if most of Queensland was built on ground below sea level.  :bolt:

Prayers and best wishes to you folks down under.  The rain that this is going to drop is going ot be the real killer, especialy since you guys have been getting soaked already.  :pray

Good luck fella's, 8m swells with 300km/h winds and 1000mm rainfall doesn't sound like fun.

300 km/h? Isn't that almost 200 mph? You aussies stay safe,

The 8mtr swell is going to be interesting as it will be coming from the NE rather than its usual direction from the SE. Look for some epic tow in surfing footage next week from Kirra Superbank and D-Bah

186 Miles per Hour

I've been in on the design and learned to design light poles over the last 15 years and I've never EVER seen a specification that called for any structure to be designed to that criteria.  Grizz?

You Aussies hunker down big time

Update: it is now officially larger than Katrina with speeds now estimated to be up to 340 KMH and has a width now of about 600 KM. It is currently threatening most of Suburban QLand (as in coast and towns) and will probably disintegrate the Barrier reef with 1000 MM's of rainfall which is 4 times Katrinas output in Louisiana.

Im safe down south thankfully, but with the winds from the west coming in, Im looking forward to a drenching of incredible porportions when it turns into a normal storm when it dissapates.

Thanks for the thoughts guys. Waiting to hear from all my Airforce buddies, hope they make it out alright. Will hit in about 4 hours time.
