Perhaps may 1943 is the date of manufacture of the part?
The fight is the fun........Don't run from the fun!

I think it says '1843'

It's a well known fact (saw it on the history Channel!) that Hitler and the
Nazi's had alien ufo technology by '43. They used it to tele-transport one
of the early, but rendered obsolete, 262s back in time during an experiment.
Then they used the results to build space/time crafts such as these.

If you look closer its obviously 1845.

'262 German jet airspeed indicator, 'Something' (a place name I'd imagine). 2. May 1945 (3?)'
While it does look kind of three like, the impression pattern does not make any sense for a three, and I don't think there were any anglophones in German territory in 1943.

If it were stripped off a bird, the tag indicates the catalog date (or the date that it was taken)

After careful examination and review of this photo @ 600% zoom in Adobe Photoshop you can clearly see it is a 5, I outlined it while still in 600% zoom with a 1 pixel brush and this was the result:

Yes if you draw it like that, but if you look at it you see the ink go to the right. Doesn't go left until it goes down. The pixels don't lie. :)

Little bit more clear pic

"Running of the Fl22245 altitude compensated Airspeed indicator, this instrument contains two instruments in one case to provide IAS up to 400 Km/h and then swaps to TAS above 400km/h through the use of two needles and a small cover. Extremely clever and an excellent instrument"
