Freaking FLEET ACK!
« on: July 14, 2001, 01:57:00 PM »
MAKE it at least PLAYER controlled not this stupid COMPUTER LAZER sight AI . ARgh.. how lame ..

You could be flying along at around 25K and while poeple are flying around the IMMEDIATE fleet area bombing/fighting whatever the ack is going off there as well.  BUT then you have someone that is about 10MILES away, getting the same attention and ack?  Gimme a freaking break..

Is it me.. or DOES the 51D seem to BE a ACK magnet? I have flown through the SAME situations with other planes and have hardley EVER gotten hit,... I fly the 51D and BOOM crunch...

PLEASE FIX this.. it is so lame

sound angered? yeah..  :D

The guns on the ships should be able to be destroyed.

What about when the CV is not manned?  Then its just a sitting duck?

I dont see anything wrong with the Fleet Ack.
It really isnt that effective far off, and it gets down right deadly up close.  Seems about right to me.

It is so bad, how come CV's and Cruisers are sunk so frequently?

I bombed 3 CVs today with a Lancaster at 10k.  RTB'd every time(no damage at all)... autopilot right up till release.

It seems that EVERY time I am flying a P51D at around 15K and UP.. doing around 400(IAS)
and anywhere in the range of Directly over and upwards to 10 miles OUT... Fleet ack start firing. I get hit.. Sometimes it is just a sound of being hit and no damage, but most of the time.. its ONE hit, and BOOM death..

Dude...ya know the fleet ack in X-plane is nothing like this.  I think you need to take a look at this Pyro.

X-plane uses blade ack theory and they have it right.

a/c in WWII never flew in a straight line for more than 30 seconds...try adjusting your flight path frequently.  Fly low...the fleet ack cant hit u when ur @ 1-200 feet above the ground.

Today

fighting in the NDIsles Terrain... 20K SE A4... Cons EVERYWHERE. XAKL and I in P-51s... We start taking HEAVY flak, Like ALL the guns wre shooting at us.

We decide to get out NW. I am in a dive and Achieve 575MPH TAS. PLane is shaking like crazy, but FLAK continues to follow my plane and score 2 pings.

Now, I understand it shooting at you. I understand it wanting to track you. But be real, just a little... How in the Hell would anyone manning a huge 5" flak gun be able to track a target going almost 600 MPH. I highly doubt it.

Also, why does 5" FLAK continue to track a small fighter that is alone at 15K+ at ranges up to 10 miles when there are PLENTY of other targets to shoot at that would be easier to see, track, hit, etc...

5" FLAK sucks. It doesn't behave like real flak either. In Real life, they would have to pepper the whole sky to HOPE they hit a fighter. They didn't track single targets and make a huge smoke ball trail follow their every move. The FLAK should have a ballistic travel time and flight path. THe AI gunners should have to TRY to guess which way you are going to turn in the 5 to 10 seconds it would take for the shells to reach your fighter at those extreme ranges.

Please make the 5" and 88mm FLAK behave the way it should....

Pepper the sky hoping to hit, or be able to track slow big targets like bombers.

5" flak on CVs is not made to stop bombers! The obvious reason is to stop enemy fighters  vulching the CV from outside and above the CV 40mm and 20mm ack. Thats why it has that (arbitrary?) 3000ft alt instant firing setup.

No I dont have any hard evidence of this (how could you?), but it seems to make sense as ive never had a bomber shot out or up from me by the CV 5" flak even when flying straight and level like dejavu did, but I have had many figters either blown up,oil damage, radiator damage and pilot wounded. Granted I fly fighers more than buffs, but i generaly avoid CV in fighers so the discrepency is probably not that great.

Anyway thats my theory on CV fleet 5" flak, basically its meant to annoy and harass enemy fighters anywhere around the CV, so the CV guys can a protective 3000ft alt and above screen.

I've had my 51 hit when the cv is just a dot on the water.

Still, the cv would be almost defenseless without it.
