New Bomber/Bomber Escort Mission: EuroMix
« on: February 07, 2011, 03:07:37 PM »
I'm excited about this one. I worked hard to get the timing just right. There's a bit of randomness in all of these missions, but usually this one yields a great "Bomber Escort" battle with allied fighters working to pick off axis fighters before the American heavy bombers are shot down. With good escort, the bombers almost always damage the target airfield in Western France.

Most of my missions are based on specific events from real WW2 history. This one.... not so much. It's intended to represent bomber escort from England to occupied France and back generally.

It's now the last mission referenced here:

http://techvideoreview.com/FlightSimMovies/AcesHigh/Ah2Missions/Ah2OfflineMissionsFullPage.htm

It's been available for awhile now, but it's never been specifically mentioned in its own thread here. There's also a "YouTube" video showing a brief snippet of some of the combat. Pilots can fly heavy bombers, allied escort fighters, or axis fighters that flew this type of mission in the ETO.

Enjoy!

No. It requires old version 2.12.4, which gives much better intelligence to the "Bots" and follows the mission plan timing much better.

Could you make a version for the current one please because I am having some troubles with the older version and it's also slowing
my computer down.       :(

Sorry, Sonic1234. I mean you no disrespect, but perhaps you don't understand the difficulty involved in your request. If I do re-work the timing of this mission for the current version of Aces High, I'm afraid it will just change again with next update. Unfortunately, that's been the pattern. For missions with sophisticated timing like this one, I just haven't found the effort worthwhile, given the implicit requirement for repeated, ongoing, eternal updates. My solution has been to pick ONE version that I support with all of my missions. SOME of my missions happen to port to later versions of Aces High with minimal fuss, so I SOMETIMES take that extra step, but there is never any promise of ongoing support.

Of course, with the published version for AH2.12.4 that I always release, the full source code is always visible from my website. If you care to do the tweaking yourself, you're welcome to get the code and time everything for your own pleasure. Take a look here and explore through my source code.

bbosen, how is it possible to run a separate AH version for these missions? I seem to remember trying that and it not working correctly for some reason. I would appreciate some instructions on how to do that.

Also what is the advantage to using the older version? Are the older AI actually better? it seems I remember reading that somewhere.

Older versions DO have better AI, follow the mission plan better, and the scripted "bot" planes fly faster. The background on all of this can be found here:

http://techvideoreview.com/FlightSimMovies/AcesHigh/Ah2Missions/Ah2OfflineMissionsFullPage.htm

If you want to fly my offline missions, the best version is 2.12.4.

You can install multiple versions of Aces High. You'll want to always keep the latest-and-greatest one, and it should generally be your "default" version, installed in the usual manner (especially if you fly online). Additional copies should be installed in some other area of your filesystem. During the installation process, you're asked for the desired filesystem location. You need to browse to some DIFFERENT area (I usually put it in /Program Files/HTC/AH2124) which you should create (empty) in advance. Thereafter, when you want to fly that older version, just "drill into" that location in your filesystem until you find "aceshigh.exe" and double-click on it.

Further details (with illustrations) on this subject can be found here:

Bah Humbug   :frown:

Downloaded AH2124 off ur site followed by d/l "Euromix", I put in the most BASIC files (1st 2 required) per instructions given, btw the new file folder was placed in C:\Program Files\HTC\, correct terrain FortEuro
all set.

EVERY TIME I attempted to fly I get "AcesHigh.exe NOT working & the program stops!  :uhoh, whereas I've no probs playing "Hanna at Scar..."
in basic form?

Can u remedy this for me to the positive?  TY.

Happy: Sorry you're not happy  :rofl

Let's take this one step at a time. From what I gather from your memo, you have succesfully:

1- downloaded AH2124?
2- verified that AH2124 works well in its basic configuration with ndisles terrain?
3- downloaded and installed the basic "no frills" version of my "Hanna at Scarpantos" mission?
4- Flown the basic "Hanna at Scarpantos" mission with success?
5- Have NOT downloaded any of the optional audio or map files for "Hanna"?
6- downloaded and installed the "forteuro" terrain?
7- Every time you try to use the "forteuro" terrain your computer crashes immediately, so you can't even try my "EuroMix" mission?

Is that the true situation, or do you get only partway thru steps 1-7? Or do I have step 7 wrong?

And... has anything changed since you wrote your memo yesterday?

I may be able to help you, but I need a better understanding of your current situation.

TY for rendering me assistance, the answers to ur numerical queries are as follows;   1 thru 6 = Yes.

# 7 on the clipboard map, Forteuro map comes out clear, changing fields to Bishop A4 & Knights A3 no prob, am able to select offline missions with success.  Upon selecting planes, clicking OK, the screen changes to the Pilots' Briefing Room, within seconds I obtain the msg:

              "Aceshigh.exe has stopped working"

I run this mission on "C:\Program Files\HTC\Aces High II", I likewise
make sure I run my programs as "ADMINISTRATOR" making sure I can run & save programs where I choose.

I am able to run successfuly on AH2124.exe in Program Files your latest program "Hanna at Scar......" etc at Ndisles & oneonone mission.

It sounds like it is trying and failing to play the single sound file that is required in that mission.

I really don't know why that file is REQUIRED, but my Aces High executable also stops, as you describe,  if I fail to download and place it EXACTLY here:

c:/Hitech Creations/Aces High/misstemp/EuroMix/CrowdMumbleFadeOut6Sec.wav

The filesystem location and filename spelling and punctuation must be EXACTLY as shown above. If there is even the slightest deviation, then my Aces High system behaves as you described. That's why my website lists that file as REQUIRED.

Along these lines, I am assuming that you never hear even any tiny snippet of the sound associated with that file (crowd mumbling as a hush falls over the briefing room). Is that correct?

Regards,

TY for ur kindness & patience, MY error's corrected & am presently enjoying ur EuroMix mission immensely   :aok

What I did wrong is put all files into Program Files thinking that ur advice in placing files in Hitech Creations was a mistake!  Lo & behold the
error was mine & mine alone, when I followed ur instructions verbatim, everything worked the way it should.

Thx for ur missions & most of all ur assistance.   :salute

OK Happy1. I'm glad it's working for you. How does it perform on your hardware? Are you getting an acceptable framerate even during the segments that are loaded with planes? Do the bombers hit the target?

And now that you are a "Believer" with regard to the file locations, are you willing to download all of the mission's associated, optional maps, briefing files, and radio banter? I think these will help you enjoy the experience much more.
