Not sure if this is the photo but there is a shot out there of two guys, one holding the other.  The held, did not look hurt really but a few minutes after the photo was taken he died in his brother's arms.

In times of war what we must remember is that the relationships you see in the FIELD are far more paternal/fraternal than they are star crossed lovers or lonely boys.

There is a video of 2 Marines walking on Guadalcanal arms wrapped around their shoulders, naked except for towels wrapped around their waist. A scene most men in civilian life would snicker at. Men in combat love each other more then we can understand and they are not ashamed to show that love.

my grandpa survied the battle of Reims in 1918 during WW1 and not enough of war he was also in Stalingrad serving in the 6th Army in WW2
He told me he saw the Hell on earth, he never went into detail, but i was 14 and wants to know it all, so he described truly detailed that they were stopped attacking because the tank chains was full of frozen bones and bodies by dead soldiers, he told more and more details, he stopped when he saw my face, i must been very shocked, i just saw his tears running down, he stopped talking with a short phrase like, " no one could ever love life more than ones survied Stalingrad or the whole war"
So personal i don't think those pictures are something to laugh about

Your Grandfather getting through Stalingrad alive is a near miracle.Of the 100,000 plus prisoners taken, only 5,000 ever returned to Germany.Just watching the Germans being marched out of Stalingrad, hurts my heart!Hitler should have allowed Paulus to break out while he still could.Hitler's no retreat policy shortened the war by many years.I seen a picture of a older German soldier making a younger one hold his head up,that was gut wrenching.I didn't like the picture of the two German soldiers comforting each other,it wasn't about being gay!Bad taste in my opinion.
I'm not a Nazi backer, and my brother fought in WWII with the 36th infantry division.I support the soldiers,as most where just fighting for their country. The politics can go to hell. The Germans where the best defensive fighters the world has ever seen!
If you have never been in combat, please save the pictures meant to portray something that it wasn't.Seeing people being killed an maimed isn't pleasant, and a hug or a slap in the face are some of the ways to bring a soldier out of his shock. :salute to your Grandfather,a very lucky warrior!,and thank you for sharing.

my grandfather was a German soldier that spend 11 years in a Russian prison camp. he told me gruesome stories of both the war and the treatment in the russian prison camp. neither one was very nice.

while i don't think the OP was trying to insult anyone with the picture, i don't think chastising him for posting it is right either. whats funny to one person, may not be to another. "if we were all the same, it wouldn't be in fun!".

i get the insinuation of the picture, but unfortunately, too many people read into it, their determination of what the picture represents.

nice try oakranger, but this one didn't quite come off the way you had hoped. better to just leave it alone.

While I agree, I don't think Oakranger meant any harm, I also think the choice of graphics to represent "Gays &/or Sheep Shankers" lacks in taste & thought.  A picture speaks a thousand words, and so does this one.  Perhaps next time when looking for graphics to take stab at "Humor", take a little time to actually "Look" at the picture before using it in an attempt at humor, as this one has no humor to it what so ever.  (one only wonders if the third person is alive or dead)

Well, for what it's worth...

If you've never had to hold another man in your arms while he is sobbing and covered in his buddy's blood, thank your Maker and count yourself lucky.

As crass as you all know that I am, that is all I have to say about that.

Carry on.

while us JG types like flying in our lederhosen and sheep in the backseat, i think you're pushing this one oakranger! although based on the wingman that is always on your 6 in the FSO, you might not be too far off!   :D
