Caught on the buildings security camera:

Pretty much a textbook vapor cloud explosion from the moment he hit. He was a member of my owners group (www.cirruspilots.org)

WOW!! I think I am sorry I asked to see that. Front of that plane just crumbled. Wings hit and fuel everywhere.
Any word on the cause of the crash?

I don't know how long the drop was or if the pilot was even conscious during it, but at least the end was quick for him.

RIP.

This was a flight school 101 screw up. The pilot side door popped open slightly. He became focused on trying to close it while at pattern alt. Maxes out the AOA, cross controlled stall to spin. The end result was 90 knots into the ground. Completely unnecessary had he ignored the totally tubular door AND flew The plane like we are taught.

That's terrible! I appreciate your reminder to us pilots, Wolfala. We often forget something insignificant is just that, insignificant.

The commercial before the story is for an accident attorney? Call Goldberg & Osborn if you've been injured in an accident!

Darn that's real tough then. Was he still a student in a school bird? If so then I bet his instructor is having a tough time of it.

I don't know how many times a door has popped on me on takeoff. The old tomahawks would do it on occasion and on a very infrequent basis my old Comanche popped a door. Noisy as all get out but just fly the plane and put her on the runway so you can secure it. The bird will fly fine with the door open. It's really spooky with a Cessna 152 when it's your door that pops. Kinda chilly in the winter too. Darn tight cockpit in those things.
