like most things it's a trade off, plasmas generally handle motion processing better than LCD's do.  All the 120hz/240hz specs you see on LCD TV's are sort of a band-aid to make up for the traditionally poor motion processing of LCD's.  Plasmas can burn, but really it's no more of a danger than the CRT that you grew up with.  Unless you're prone to marathon game sessions it shouldn't be a problem, for AH purposes unless you're the type that likes to walk away from the game and sit in the tower for hours on end or go AFK for a long slow climb to 30k in a lancaster with all the looking around we do it shouldn't be a problem.

Most plasmas have features that will help prevent burn-in.  Be it a subtle pixel shift or the ability to turn on a white screen, or some other method.  I've owned a plasma for 4 years now or so which I use for my every day TV viewing, the only time I've had burn in be a problem was back during the presidential elections when I watched one of the debates that latest 2+ hours w/out commercial interruptions and the stupid CNN graphics left a bit of an after image, I turned on the white screen for a bit and that took care of it.  Only time it's ever even came up.

If you are prone to really long game session with a static image on screen (like a FPS HUD or some such) then yes LCD is probably better.

The problem with the plasma is that it only takes one (1) drunken night out + desktop on and you have pretty littl icons burned to your expensive screen forever. My parents forgot the recording dvd on for one night and the device menu stuck for good for example. And then there's the flicker. THE reason why I got rid of my crts as fast as I could.

I think some people are more prone to seeing the flicker than others, because both CRT's and Plasma share some similarities it can be an issue for people are bothered by it.  I've never noticed it myself but I also never saw the "rainbow effect" that bedeviled some people when they looked at the DLP display either.  I would think viewing distance would also play a part.

Samsung make awesome TV's Bash, I would recomend them highly. I bought a 37" widescreen LCD 1080p samsung over a year ago and have had no trouble. Most samsung TV's come with a PC input on the back and a dedicated PC channel programmed into them.
And I don't know much, but I do know this. With a golden heart comes a rebel fist.

I'v been using a 32' LCD TV for 4 years know and have had no problems with it. TV's have come a long way since I bought mine.

The best part is you can play and watch TV at the same time.

Been using a Samsung 42" plasma for about 15 months.  Occasionally I'll notice some flickering but not enough to bother me.  Never notice it in game though.  You can get one for under $500 pretty easily.

Has anyone used a LED yet, I have a 32" LED and I'm having trouble with getting my video card set correctly, I've been changing settings and still get a white halo around planes 1k and out, and also as I approach a plane the silhouette seems to be pixilated until about 1.5k out and closing, I plenty of power to run it, I'm using a Nividia 8800 GTS, two core duo processor, windows XP  also using DVI - HDMI cable, set to 1920 1080 resolution, I have the game settings matching the card settings what am I missing.  :bhead  :bhead

PS even my avitar seems grainy

Please note that a 'led' tv differs from a regular lcd tv only by its backlighting. 'Edge led' models have led lights in the edges of the screen instead of the regular incandescent lamp. The more expensive field led has thousands of leds directed to a section of the screen that can individually be turned off to increase contrast. Both have their problems that unfortunately have nothing to do with your problem. Your problem is entirely related to the hdmi-dvi link.

Update: I was readjusting my video card settings and adjusting color settings and got better results, but it could be allot better, it seems that I have to raise the the gama setting in game to lighten it up.
