The badge on the side of the car said 4300

i just went through my information system. in 87 there was only the engines i listed....2.8, 4.1, and 5.0. the 4.1 was the good old ht4100, and to say it sucked balls is a mild understatement. the 4.1 was replaced in 1988 with the 4.5L. it too sucked balls, but not quite as badly as the 4.1. in 88 the only engines offered were the 2.8, 4.5, and 5.0. in 1991 the 4.5 was replaced by the 4.9. this engine was pretty good. there was also a 5.7 option added(this was the corvette engine).
 if we go back to 86, there was a 2.0, 2.8, 4.1, and 5.0.

someone stuck a 4.3 badge on your car. there was never from what i can find, nor from what i have ever seen, a 4.3 in a cadillac.

I was off by one number, no I wasn't wrong saying that the 4100 engine is the worst engine ever produced by GM and ever will be.

You stuck your SAP(self appointed professional) nose in again just as you did in the jeep thread not to long ago. Wake up call is " you really don't know everything!" Funny your a SAP jeep tech and a mercedes benz SAP.....LMAO :lol

I have a 2002 Dodge Caravan also, is that junk, is the tranny good in that one?

You mean the Jeep thread where aftermarket IFS parts used in Baja racing, were being compared to Stock Hummer IFS parts by AKP?   I was correct and AKP was comparing apples to oranges in that thread.

Good luck with your Ignition Cylinder on the Caravan (Focus and the Caravan/T&C suffer from that one).   Dodge transmissions have sucked for years, it's truly hit or miss.   When I was Test Driving for Roush, we had 2 2013 Grand Caravans.    One was in our program for 4 months and only had 3500 miles on it.   It was always in the shop, until the transmission literally fell out of the vehicle on US-23.    The other made it until 7500 and started slipping, so they yanked it from the program.

FYI, I have a few friends that have had MB's and they have all had transmission issues (S-Series and up).   You said the 4300 (two numbers) more than once and yes you WERE WRONG!

Any Caddy with the 4.3 litre V-8. Worst motor ever made IMHO. They used a all aluminum block and heads and put cast iron sleeves in the cylinders.

Just because you say different Mr.weakbait doesn't mean they didn't make one. I had a 1987 Caddy sedan deville with that junk motor in it and it was the worst idea GM ever had.

The badge on the side of the car said 4300

For the Record Todd.   My buddy stationed in Germany has an 83 SL280.   Here's his advice for you:

"The only two negatives from an engine standpoint are oil leakage from the cylinder head and the tendency to have a noisy valve train. If you're ok with the power of the six cylinder, I think it's fine.  If the cars have a/c.  The early cars had either two rotary dials, a vertical push button or a horizontal push button.   He'd want the horizontal setup if it's available.   As far as the model goes the things to look for are oil leakage from the engines (head), transmission, power steering, worn motor and sub-frame mounts, worn steering and suspension bushings and undercarriage rust as the car becomes older.  There is also a problem with the sub-frame cracking at the lower control arm mounting. There is a weld in bracket fix that he should check for.
