It's all situational, possibley a bug but not likely.  Got film or a SS?  What tank were you driving at the time?  Where was the field gun's fire impacting on your tank's armor (what was it's position and distance from your tank)?

I know field Ack can knock out the tracks on a tank but not outright destroy it.

Manned ack is either 37mm or 40mm.  I can't remember which.  I always thought the auto ack were the same.

.50 cal and 20mm ap rounds can penetrate the armor around the engine and knock it out, especially at close range ~300 yards or less...depends on the tank...would take a full belt of .50 to track it...but then there is always the "golden bb"...you just never know.

Like so many other assumptions I have, I am sure someone will come in here and correct me, but I am reasonably certain that the ack (auto and manned) is 37mm.

The circle ack is 20mm and the square ack is 37mm. Any tank can be killed by field ack if you let it.

Most auto-ack is 20mm but if you look on fields you will see the 20mm are round and the 37mm are square. Not all the 37mm are manneable and they do fire. You will see the tracers from these guns and they are much slower than the 20mm but what you dont see are the non-tracer rounds (obviously) and they will kill you.

You think incorrectly. Tracers are not very dangerous. Steel is very dangerous.
