VOX causes game to freeze
« on: March 08, 2011, 11:56:37 PM »
Exactly what the title says.  It only happens every once in a while but when it does it's very annoying.  I press my talk button and the game freezes playing whatever sound it was playing when I hit the button on about a 1 second loop.  I have to use the task manager to shut down AH, and the game wont start again unless I restart my computer.

Sounds like the computer either ran out of resources, or the sound card driver is getting overwhelmed and not servicing an interrupt.

A DXDIAG would be helpful.  Also note, if you are using custom sounds, get rid of them.

Using a pretty old RealTek sound device driver.  RealTek has had a bunch of problems with the 64 bit driver.  You really should update it.

You will have resource issues with that computer unless you have shut down all the unnecessary nonsense installed by HP.

The drivers for the Realtek HD audio speakers?  I disable those completely and use only my headset when I play AH if that makes any difference

There is no headset showing up in the DXDIAG.  It also could explain why things are acting badly.  USB headsets require a lot more overhead than any other sound device.

Do you still have the Windows process "superfetch" enabled?

The headset is listed under sound capture devices, dont ask me why.  And as far as processes go, I have no clue im pretty computer illiterate, Im lucky to be able to turn this freakin thing on.
