Disappointed, but here to stay.
« on: May 18, 2000, 12:31:00 PM »
I will never be one of the top pilots in Aces High. Never even came close in Warbirds after nearly 3 years of flying.    I still sleep well at night.  My wife and children still love me.  My squad mates still respect me, I think.

But,

I am disappointed that I don't have the skill, time, and the few extra pennies at the end of the month to qualify to fly the "special" planes.

<S> to those that are able to fly as well and as much as they do.   No problems with that. I just think there should be a few "random" selected pilots every month. If not you exclude the regular 99% who never get to the top, let alone those that are not even in the top 50%.

If I am way off base here correct me.

With all respect, daddog, why don't you just wait to see what they implement before you start to be disappointed about it? It's a new perspective, not really tried out yet (although the idea really matches the powerup idea of arcade shooters  ), and everyone is playing advocatus diaboli here?

How about looking forward to this feature instead? (Hint, hint )

Mission planner. This feature allows a player to create a mission and have other people join it. Mission parameters such as type and number of planes, fuel and ordnance loadouts, starting fields and times, and waypoints and instructions can be entered. Players who join a mission have this information transferred to their clipboard and displayed on their map. This feature will be a helpful organizing tool for special events, squadrons, and just general use for running missions in the main arena.

I'm right with ya, Daddog. We need to start a "Family Man's" special interest group.

Seriously, I hope there is some method of giving us poor, henpecked family men a chance to fly these uber rides. I offered one idea in Badger's new "I QUIT" thread. Having an "Uber Lottery"(tm) each tour may be the ticket.

Those of us with busy family lives just can't  compete with all the young, single guys out there that spend a few hours each night on AH. So, I really hope the uber system isn't going to be weighted in the direction of those that fly more often.

While I think it is interesting to speculate, and to voice perferences and opinions, about the Plane Perk concept, it is probably WAY to early to get worried that it will be unfair or impossible for some to achieve.

I'd bet that HTC will stay up late at night working this out so that it will only ADD to the game.  HT has outlined many *possible* stratigies for implementation, and made it clear that this is a work in progress.

I'm hoping that there is a special points bonus for particularly artful crash landings.

Az,

I look forward to using it.

Thanks banana!
LOL fd-ski!   Wish it were true!
Good point popeye.   Maybe I am early with this. I just wanted to put out my two cents.

I believe that the intention was to have the Plane Perk plan discussed, or it wouldn't have been announced. I believe that these discussions can influence how the plan is implemented, especially if your viewpoint is given in a respectfull and thoughtfull manner. Measure twice, cut once.

There were several variations suggested that propose random methods for choosing the lucky pilots who will fly the uber planes. I would prefer something like that, being one of those who can't devote that much time to it, but love it no less, and pay the $30 for it just the same. This way, the same people won't be getting the uber ride over and over.

Thats all I've got to say about that.

Maybe they'll give everyone the option to fly one of the "uber planes" ONCE per TOD. If you fly  to live, you might just hang on to it for quite a while!

That way everyone gets a fair shot at it, yet it keeps things a lot more balanced than releaseing it for normal service.

My only hope is that the F4U-C model makes the Uber list. WAY too many hawgs out there lately.

Daddog I feel somewhat the same . I'm in the middle of the pack. Not bad but not good. I have fun, don't get me wrong but I'm not one of those who cause a "parting of the waves" when I'm in the air.
I do get kills though.    And one of the aspects of this coming setup that I am really looking forward to is removing a few pilots from thier TA-152's, Spit XiV's and F8F's ...forcibly.. while flying a common airplane.
So if I die to, say,  Wardog, Torque,  or Hristo while they fly a uber plane it won't be much different than the dozens of other times that I died to them.  I will however relish the ONE time I am able to open them up like a tin can if they're in an uber ride
