Even though when, you think about it, eternal life seems... well rather boring, eventually...
I have a hard time thinking that I'll eventually say to myself, 'Well, I've had enough of this'. The world constantly changes around you...

No I've been on the brink of death several times...was I ready to go? No

Life is hard...70-80 years is plenty for me.

No interest at all in living forever.

I think much of it has to do with believing that there is something beyond this life however.  I'd imagine if I thought that death was it, I'd probably think differently.  As it is, i've got too many folks I hope to see again and too many questions I want answers to.

Afterlife - If it's there, and forever, it can wait.  I see no reason not to make the most of this life while I'm at it. Indeed that's what's usually promised about afterlife: eternal bliss etc... Stretching this life by a few centuries or millenia is chump change in comparison.  No hurry.

I presume you mean live forever in our physical bodies.

My world view already presumes I do live forever just not in our corporeal body.

Lets go to round two.

So NO.

Most of the people in this thread, apparently.

Yes - losing loved ones would be hard....very very hard....but I would manage. As already stated - there is the exit option.

I would say yes a hundred times over. The only thing I legitimately fear is death. It's the only thing that has every stopped me in my tracks or made me feel sick in my gut.

Real terror is not the sight of death, it is the fear of death. What is the fear of death? Terror of the unknown.

Why would "this world" remain what you know it as, forever?

How do you guys justify this apparent expectation that this measly piece of time and space and knowledge that we've experienced so far is even close to being as much as the tip of the iceberg?   One little piece of rock among billions or trillions, a few thousand years out of tens of billions past and for all we know trillions of trillions future, and for all we know one universe among indefinitely many more if not also a variety of whole other planes of existence.... And you take "this world" as what to expect from living long enough to explore all these things in what really does amount (for those of you who're religious) the full splendor of your deity's creation?  You just opt out of all that to retire for dessert asap?

I really don't get it.  Pessimism, defeatism... take your pick, there's just no positive way this kind of perspective appears to me.

Pretty much, but look at it this way. We have: war, disease, famine, and death. These are just some things and the list just goes on and on. Yes, there are some good things, but sometimes they can be outweighed by the atrocities that happen on this world. You can call it what you want, but other people just expect something better after this life.          (sorry for the very short answer, my dad just went to the hospital and ill try to fix it when I get back)

No desire to live to see the end of time or the destruction of our solar system...because honestly the way most people live their life you in fact could/would see those things happen in a few billion years. If I live to see grandchildren or 75-85 years old I think that would be enough; no need to continue cluttering up the landscape after that point. Besides I think I will have to work till I am 70 just to be able to retire and be comfortable for a few years.

M0nkey - I don't see why those are reason enough to give up what good we know and will find in the future.

Reschke - Billions of years till Sun starts to inflate.  Plenty of time to figure something out, if this solar system is still deemed so precious.

A few centuries and space access ought to be routine.  No more crowding then.
