Cloud Layer
« on: February 27, 2011, 05:05:07 PM »
Dear Hitech Creations,

In the main arenas, you know that cloud layer that's usually at 15K? When you go above it there are no more clouds above you, they are all lower. Can you please raise that layer to something higher like 30K? When I pass above that cloud layer, I feel like I am really high, and I bet others feel the same. If you raised that layer, I bet people would fly higher and you would see more high altitude fights. In the Special Events Arena it's set really high, and you can go over 30k without even getting close to that layer of cloud, and it looks cool.

Thank you for taking the time to read this request.

Sincerely,
Clone

Most people don't want their fighter sorties comprised of more climbing than fighting.  But if you like spending all your time flying up to 30k; then flopping and floundering in a barely controllable fashion, by all means have at it.

IMO, it's a strange wish.  You want the cloud layer higher to encourage higher alt fights?  The cloud layer is a really weird haze that I usually only use to quickly make a determination if a con is higher or lower than 15k (or 17.5k sometimes).  I'm not sure it would work though, I'd like to think that people are smarter than just feeling high, like... they use their altimeter?

Until we get a MiG-3 every single Pilotka in the game would be at a big dissadvantage at high alt fights, the only time I have ever had a Lavochkin above 9.5k was an AFK auto climb,  so taking fights higher gets a -1 from me

Clouds (puffy and layers) are usually built into the terrain.  The terrain maker can choose the altitude, speed, direction and duration of all.  The default for the thin layer you're talking about is 15k +/- and many people choose not to change it.  I'm working on a couple of terrains, and it seems more logical to me that this thin layer should be 25k+ to simulate high cirrus clouds.

We need it low to reduce the visibility for the buffs. I don't want to climb to 30K every time I want to shoot down a buff.

I would like to see it varied.  Some higher than 15, some lower, hell sometimes high and low!  Change it up as variety is the spice of life.   :aok
