Profiles for CH Gear?
« on: February 27, 2011, 08:33:51 PM »
Topic says it all....

I got a new computer, been tooling around offline trying to get everything set up the way I like it.  I really think the CH stuff is of higher quality than the Saitek stuff I am still really used to, but it is like it was designed with no regard for ergonomics at all.

I used to have my flaps mapped to the throttle on the Saitek... I cant figure out a comfortable place to map them on the CH.

Whats everyone else do?

I'm using a saitek throttle, got flaps mapped to a 4 way switch on there. Up and down on up and down on the switch, left brings up gear/drops gear. Nothing on the right.

I have a CH stick/pedals/throttle setup, and on the Pro Throttle I put the flaps on hat 3.  Up and down moves the flaps, one notch either way.  Left and right toggles the speed brakes on planes like the Stuka.  If you'd like a copy, here's a link to my CH map

Good to see ya Urchin,
I use a full CH HOTAS setup ( fiterstick, pro throttle, pedals )

everyone is gonna be somewhat different in regars to what is most comfortable to them.....

I myself, prefer my flaps be mapped to the bottom Right hat  on the back side of the FighterStick.....

I look at it like this.... I am already flying with the stick and when I need my flaps they are right there for me via using my thumb on that specific hat switch for flaps up or flaps down.......

I tried it on the throttle a couple times, but I found myself being "slower" or out of sync with my left hand working the flaps on the throttle and right hand working the stick input....

I do not use TrackIR so I try and have as much Flight/views/flaps/guns-ALL:primary:secondary/view up modifier/etc. as possible programmed to my stick, and all the secondary functions like gear, ordinance selection, map toggle, different Trim settings mapped, brakes, wep and of course throttle, tuned vox / range vox all programmed to the Throttle

hope this gives you some ideas...

I have mine on the throttle like Bino. My thinking is, if my thumb is busy tracking bogies on the sticks hatswitch, it not going to help me get my flap up or down. With it on the throttle I can be running the flaps up and down while I'm running through the views.

I just updated my CH map file to include useful info in the "comments" for all functions.  File here.

If you're interested in how I have my throttle quad and fighterstick pro mapped:

http://www.nakatomitower.com/CH_stickmaps.zip

I put my flaps on the thumb 4-way... Push away from self = drop flaps. Pull towards = retract. That way extend/retract is more intuitive.

I'll check out that profile when I get back home, thanks for that!

As far as the flaps go, they definately have to be on the left hand lol.  I tried the stick real briefly after taping some foam to the base so I could actually reach up there... wasn't a fan.

There used to be pictures of CH Fighter stick and CH pro Throttle mapping from various individuals posted.  Does anyone have those links?
I prefer to use those.  I'm not sure where the numerical files go that you have posted links to.

Thanks

If you put a copy of one of these files on your local machine, open CH Manager navigate to  "file... open..." and then click on "download" to use it.

I finally have a full CH setup.  I still have yet to comprehend the CH mapping so I do everything in game.  I make use of the mode select to toggle between Fighter (mode 1), GV (mode 2 and rarely used but handy), and bomber (mode 3).....

For flaps the picture that BINO posted is where I have mine mapped to on the throttle.  Rationale:  the CH Fighterstick is too big for my hands.  I rarely use the many opportunities (read as buttons/hats) and most of my flying is done with the hand resting on the base of the stick.  Works great for flying but when in the heat of battle, I shift my hand position up for the trigger.

I love the accuracy/smooth inputs/feel of the CH stick......In retrospect I would have purchased the CH Combat stick as it looks a bit smaller for me.

I still have several buttons that are NOT mapped on the stick....throttle is fully utilized though.

Great question and great responses!
