Screen resolution problems
« on: March 04, 2011, 06:00:23 PM »
I'm having trouble with the screen res on a Samsung 23" widescreen LED monitor is the game. The max res for the desktop icons to be in frame is 1680X1050. This works well for all my windows activities. The best res in the game is 1900X1080 but the Display info at the top of the screen is up and mostly off screen so I back off to 1680x1050 to keep that info on screen. Problem is at that res the plane from the cockpit is flat and squat. Totally distorted. I can go ahead and run the 1900x1080 (could set for higher res if that is possible) which minimizes the squashed effect but does not totally eliminate it and do without the FR info at the top of the screen but I like to see the FR. Is the FR available somewhere else in flight? Can I set a higher res manually? Can I move the FR display in the screen? (drag and drop doesn't work)

Thanks in advance!

set the resolution on your monitor to whatever "native resolution" is...the game should pick up the same resolution in the video settings menu automatically...you may also need to adjust the anti aliasing slider...not sure...do not try to set the game resolution to something different than what the video card/monitor are set to...you will have problems...make sure you have "auto set field of view" checked off and do not "disable vsync"...

i'm running 1680x1050 and my view is perfect...

Is "Auto Set Field of View" turned on in video settings?

thanks .... when windows and the game are set to 1680--1050 everything on the screen is the view. It's just the plane is flat and distorted like its stretched sideways a little. tha tgoes away in 1900-1080 but then the FR display and the vox que go out of the field of view.
Auto view is selected and anti aliasing is about 2/3 rds...<scratching head>

thanks,

sounds like your fov is messed up...turn you have 2 notches of anti aliasing? should only need 1...and check your nvidia control panel...if anti-aliasing isn't set to "application controlled" for the ah profile...change it...

come to think of it...this sounds familiar...i think there is a file you can delete that may fix the issue...video8.cfg (?) maybe

Delete video8.cfg file, reset your video settings and you should be good to go. Video8.cfg just contains the settings for your graphics etc, and is safe to delete.

At first I checked is your monitor actually a small HD tv, the symptoms fit.

Some people who play with a HD tv can get a surprising effect from the overscan tvs use. The tv still reserves a border of lines on each side of image for 'drawing' of lines even though they're no longer needed. That's why you want to make sure overscan is disabled on your tv along with 120hz etc. monstrosities.

If your only problem is actually not seeing the framerate display I'd just leave it hidden and forget about it. If the problem is caused by a narrowed field of view then it will naturally hinder your playing.

Thanks gents,
deleting the video8 file didn't help. Wish I could paste a screen shot here but wouldn't know how. For now I have dropped back to 1680-1050 and will have to get use to a flat squat cockpit view. I was resolved to the idea of turning off the info display (cntrl I) but I can't see the radio icon in the upper right corner either and I want to see who is on VOX. Think of anything else I would sincerely appreciate it.  <S>

Get rid of the HDMI and connect using the regular DVI cable (your monitor and card should have the possibility). Sometimes HDMI just fails to get the correct proportions to the image.
