Baedeker Raids - Thursday 3/10/11 Challenge and Film Contest
« on: March 06, 2011, 08:15:40 PM »
The Baedeker Raids

Hitler demanded reprisals for the more than 250 tons of incendiaries dropped on the Baltic seaport of Lubeck.  The Luftwaffe's attempts to follow the Fuhrer's wishes would become know as Baedeker raids.

*Thursday night's event, is a fictional mission that is loosely based on units that served in this area.

While on temporary detachment to the Low Countries KG30 was the sole Ju88 Kampfgeschwader to remain in action against the British Isles.  Its two Gruppen were supported by 3 of the ex-coastal units Kampfgruppen 106 506 and 606.  Combined with the Ju88 torpedo- bombers of II. and III. / KG26 (brought up from their bases in southern France), they set out to disrupt the Allied shipping amassing in the Channel.  Their target was to be all ships in harbours like Portland harbour, but especially the Allies submarines.

Will the lessons learned at Pearl Harbor aide the Allies in their defenses, or are will they be doomed to repeat the tragedies on another front?  Come join in the AvA arena on Thursday March 10, 2011 recieve orders @ 8:30 pm EST and be sure to film every minute of it.  A contest will be held for the best edited film of the event.

  • There will be a You tube video contest. The best video of the nights action will be posted on the AvA website.
  • Greater than 50% percent of these ships destroyed will be an Axis victory, less will be an Allied Victory
  • There are 5 ships at each port 1 carrier 2 submarines 1 cruiser 1 destroyer
  • Targets are the ships at P-105, P-106, P-107 and P-108, and P-109
  • Axis objective: Torpedo as many ships as possible.
  • Allied objective: Defend ports.

Axis Objective is to use either escorted or unescorted Ju88's with torpedoes to destroy the docked ships at ports P105, P106, P107, P108, and P109.

Allied Objective is to defend ports.

1st frame will run til 10pm est, Ju88's with torpedoes will be enabled at 8:30pm est.

At 10pm est Ju88's will be disabled, objectives will be checked, reset and at 10:30 JU88's will be enabled again.

At 12pm est they will again be disabled and there will be a final tally of objectives.

At first checkpoint, only a few ships were destroyed at P-105.

Rather than reset, I decided to just extend the battle until 11:30pm est.

At that checkpoint, the axis just barely won, by a count of one ship over 50% destroyed.

A very close win for the Luftwaffe.

If you have any good films of the nights action, stand by for contest instructions from Chilli.

I made one torp run near the end, and sunk a destroyer. I have that on film. I know JVnotch has film of his runs, he realy led the way with the port strikes.

Thanks, you guys. It was a blast to have an objective to work off of.  I think I like that better than a mini-scenario.  It was very fun & got to direct some fighters for cover.  There is one run where I actually had some escorts that kept the heat off me so I could get a good torp run in.

I would like to congratulate Axis on their win.

From all accounts, JVnotch lead the way for the Axis.  :salute  I would like to thank everyone who was able to participate in the event, especially JVnotch, Devil 505 (awesome screenies) and Crazy8sJimson, did an awesome job as monitor and keeping me in my seat, so that objectives were made simple, yet challenging for both sides.

Please post contest submissions in the following thread, and good luck, may the best film win.  (I am taking the liberty of pasting 505s screenshots from this thread):  http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,308744.0.html
