Yesterday saw the birth of JG54 Grünherz. Because of reorganisation in JG2 to get a sleaker, meaner squad, some from II/JG2 (Euro contigent) opted to form this squad to help gain cohesion. It's not formed because of squabble within JG2, but rather was created to give added flexibility and freedom to both squads.
At the moment, the roster has four members; three officers with commanding power (Hristo, Habicht, Maik) and one normal one, aka the Shoe Shiner StSanta
.
JG54 was, interestingly enough, the first squad to fly the FW-190D9 in combat. Added bonus for Hristo
.
This is a historical squad with dedicated members flying Luftwaffe iron only, with the exception of goons and buffs. When future added aircraft enables us, the last two ugly American aircraft will be replaced
.
Squad is to be relatively small - at the most 10 members. All pilots are to be dedicated LuftWaffe pilots and must fly for Knightlandia.
New recruits will be given a 14 day test membership where attitude and team spirit can be evaluated. All members of squad has veto right and can reject new recruit. This is to keep group cohesion and is not meant as an elitistic better-than-you effort.
Squad structure is much like JG2 - titles would mean functionality and some responsibility, but no authority in the military sense.
A Training Officer is responsible for squad team training - one or (preferrably) two nights a week for whatever time is appropriate. All pilots are encouraged to come up with scenarios to aid training.
As far as history of the JG54 goes, I am still waiting for a book I've ordered some time ago called:
Green Hearts - First in Combat with the Dora 9
by Axel Urbanke
published by Eagle Editions
ISBN 0-9660706-0-7
but if anyone want to fill me in or post a URL with more info, I'd appreciate it.
