If it's anything like what I've seen from the Hawaii footage, it shouldn't be too bad.

Hoping for the best either way.

We had 2-3m high waves here in OR, Came in two separate surges and didn't reach the top of the sea wall.

Sounds like Crescent City will get the most damage along the U.S. Cost.

One hits us everyday, most being no larger than the normal surf.  That being said, I was a little scared by the general reaction people had to the iminute threat and danger (as hyped by the media) of a tsunami here in LA.  Copypasta:

So, leaving the house today, my dad is like "hey, can you survey the hardscape at the Santa Monica CC performing arts center for me on the way in?". I'm like sure, nothing to it. Driving down PCH heading into SM, and I'm wondering why there's more police cruisers patroling PCH than Charlie Sheen's front lawn? Then I remembered the news last night. Oh crap, knew I shoulda taken the freeway.

All is fine, but omg lol, Charles Darwin could probabley write a few academic studies on the DROVES AND HERDS OF PEOPLE that gathered in Santa Monica at 8am on the beach walk, pier and cliffs for a front and center seat to the show. Yeah, I know, 90% chance it would only be 3-feet high at most, but still, does it not seem a little crazy or idiotic?"

yeah and lots of dorks are taking the day off to go to the beach.

semp

Don't get me started, it's probabley true.  Only four more hours until my weekend starts, if I'm lucky.

Honestly, being familiar with that area of the state very well, if I understand the story correctly, the guy wasn't near the brightest penny to decide and stand....

here.

This is the sandbar that always exists there, except when it's breached, as pictured, during storms/floods, at the mouth of the Klamath River.  To decide and go of all places to here, during even a storm with rough seas, nevermind a tsunami, errs on the side of suicide.  It's unfortunatley very likely a visiting tourist to the area, to of been at one of the worst places at the worst time like that (and they aparently went there intentionaly to witness the tsunami) it is almost certain they were unaware of the extremely cold water tempuratures, frequent rip and strong currents in those waters (or how to counter them) and submerged snags (logs and storm debri) hidden below water throughout that sandbar and which is the most hidden danger there, especialy when the sand is recently washed out or rains and fllods upriver come depositing new debris.  It is unfortunate but very likely he or she drowned or was overwhelmed within a minute of being swept away from that location, if I understand the reports correctly. :(
