Same books lists the -7 as

Take off/Sea Level: 1490
Combat/6250ft: 1720
Combat/19250ft: 1505
Military/8500ft:   1590
Military/21400ft:  1370

P51B in game uses the Rolls Royce Merlin 61 (same as the Packard Merlin V-1650-3 ) while the P51D uses the 66 (which is the Packard Merlin V-1650-7). I can find information that the V-1650-7 was 1,490 HP/1,720 HP but no information on the P51B's V-1650-3's HP.
I also believe that the P51D was slightly lighter an airframe to make up for the extra 2 .50 cals correct?

Malcolm hood is a newer addition to the P51B in game. it used to have the birdcage. never knew why they replaced it with the Malcolm? most likely for the better view.

Backing up statements that the Mustang MK III is the P51B/C and the Mustang MK IV is the P51D/K. Dolby, like they said, the only Allison Mustangs were the A model/MK II ones. A nice plane but no where near what the mustangs in game are like :t
Where do you get this drivel?  Compare the critical altitudes of the Spitfires VIII and XVI to the P-51D.  It is most certainly not using a Merlin 66.  Likewise, the P-51B is not using a 1560hp Merlin 61 like the Spitfire Mk IX.

Try this. http://www.wwiiaircraftperformance.org/mustang/mustangtest.html These are the figures from Wright Field in Dayton, Oh.  One of the premier test beds for the US during WWII.

Thanks, Helpful but not what I'm looking for.

I'm after the parts, especially the engine type :salute
The Powerplant in the North American P-51B Mustang was one 1044 hp Packard V-1650 Rolls-Royce Merlin Engine

Again, check the link above, the field test at Wright Field.  You're shorting 51s with the Merlin V1650-3 by 406hp.

To be clear, I was not stating the P-51s aren't using Merlins.  Anybody even slightly educated about this subject knows they are.  I was stating the absurdity of the claim that the P-51D was using the low blown Merlin 66.  I don't think the 51B used a Merlin 61, but I could be wrong on that, at least it is high blown.

Not the best of sources, but for what it's worth Wikipedia cross references the Packard V-1650-3 with the Merlin 68, the V-1650-7 with the Merlin 69
