I built a ship in a bottle
« on: March 17, 2011, 09:12:00 AM »

Hello again. Twenty years ago, before children, and when we lived in a one bedroom apartment, I used to make ships in bottles as a hobby. I wanted to show my kid how I used to do this. So, I just made my first one in over two decades, and I think it turned out pretty well.

It was made from scratch not a kit.

Have you ever heard of the “Instructables” website? It’s where viewers post step by step instructions on how they made or did something. I posted an instructable about building this ship. You can see it here.

http://www.instructables.com/id/Building-A-Ship-In-A-Bottle/

I also posted instructable on my Beer Bottle Color Organ, and my favorite pie recipe.

Well that wasn't very smart, now how are you gonna get the ship out of the bottle to play with it in the bath tub????

Thanks for the compliments.

Back then I did not have Aces High, the internet, or even premium cable channels to occupy my time. Boredom can make you crafty. This hobby started when I read an article about ships in bottles and asked myself, “I wonder if I could do that?”…

I gave away all of the ships I made way back then. A few years ago when my Mother passed, the one that I made for my Father over twenty years ago came back to me. And I enjoyed proving to my kid that I really did make it.

anyone ever see a klingon battle cruiser or the starship enterprise in a bottle?

oddest nautical thing i've ever seen in a bottle was a submarine...funniest was a replica 70s icbm in a wide mouth clear vinegar bottle...the guy said the stand for the missle took more time than the missile...it was meant as a joke for his father who built ships in bottles...

No, About 3 years ago I bought the bottle at a garage sale for a quarter. I then put it on a shelf in the garage just in case I ever wanted to make another ship.

But... I may have to make a trip to the liquor store and see what comes in a nice looking bottle... Just for the sake of art. I promise not to get ANY enjoyment out of the contents.

you can look up the bottles that Carlos Rossi wine uses. Plenty of space inside but narrow bottleneck.
