Death is no easy answer
For those who wish to know
Ask those who have been before you

Somehow I think this is what HTC had in mind when they gave a report button

(Image removed from quote.)
nope, crowdsourcing of sorts. It makes sense just from a network perspective.  Pragmatically too, mods can't be everywhere all the time.  Next question might be - how much overhead does Skuzzy get from false positives?

Its sad.
Nah.  It all reads like a major softie, no street smarts.  You only fail to realize the futility of "metacognition" for its own sake if you grew up sheltered.  Assuming it's not a troll.

Or... Which annoys him more?  A minor rule violation or a dozen tattletales rushing to report it?

I'll answer that.

A valued poster is one who participates and works to maintain the goals we have for our forums.  The rules are there to provide a guideline to what we want to see on our forums.

Those who do not respect those rules are not good for the community, at large.  Those that would help to remove those persons from the board are better for the community, than those who would support the breaking of the forum posting rules.

The person reporting has not more say about what happens on this board, as a report is just a flag notifying HTC there might be a violation of the forum posting rules.  I see it as a good neighbor who watches my house for me while I am away.  I would certainly hope they would call the police if someone broke into my house, and not worry about being called a "tattletale".

again, (as stated previously) if you haven't a login, you only see that one lightly-trafficed area. It's mostly a place where we can argue about politics, something Hitech has concluded doesn't further his business, and something squeakers either care little of or don't comprehend

Not true.  The discussion of politics and religion were barred from our forums due to the community, at large, proving they could not discuss those topics in a rational and respectful manner.  We also have far too many people who have no idea how to stop themselves from making side commentary in threads, which do not add anything constructive to the actual topic.

That's pretty much what I meant--a hundred people frothing at the mouth over competing religions, abotion, etc., putting hideous things to print...makes it look like HT is giving tacit approval to it all, and I'm sure some more easily-offended folks probably quit their accounts over it. Really hasn't much to do with whether WW2 pilots used their flaps in combat or not. I liked the forum better before, but I certainly understand it.

It was a factual statement, not a comparative one.  I could care less about how it is outside the forums and am glad I do not have to moderate any further than this forum.
