Libya is rich in oil. Very much so.
And Gaddafi, despite having supported the western effort against Al-Kaida, is a solid old thug.
He has been bombed by the Brits before, and after that he behaved a bit better (well not always)
His old sins that are known, are the Lockerbie incident, assassination of a young Police officer in London (a Woman) which revealed that the Libyan embassy was an effective arsenal!, and launching missiles at Italy.
In 1989 2 Tomcats from USS JFK had a fight with Libyan Mig-23's.
There are many other incidents, - the bottom line is that the guy is trouble.
It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)

Yes, let's hope the rebels win.

Then let's hope the ensuing power vacuum isn't filled with extremists.

Instability in the region is a good thing right?

Retarded.  :bhead

Methinks the National Transitional Council has the power bit covered.  They've already been effectively recognised by the US, France, Portugal, UK, EU, UN.  They also appear to have the support of their own people.  I really don't foresee there being a power vacuum there.  As for extremists: the rebels so far have been fighting for democracy.  The extremists can't really operate without the support of the people, and I very much doubt they'll find much support in Libya atm.
Afk for a year or so.  The name of a gun turret in game.  Falanx, huh?

Bottom line is its all about stability in the Middle east and now North Africa.  Unstable oil producing countries means unstable global market (everything is either shipped and or made with oil).  This equals very bad things on top of an already shaky economy.  So being the middle man breaking up the fight for our friend (popular global vote for the winner) is in all of our best interest.
They call it "common sense", then why is it so uncommon?

I think the Libyan people need to be given priority over oil supplies in this case.
