Stats make it look like a hopped up 205, never heard of this plane.

same engine as the 205, but imo ( could anyone back this up with scince?) the wing design of the Re series A/c is much better then the Macchis, but the 2005 is also 200lbs heavier the the 205
also, another thing to look at is that very few Italian A/c were built during the entire time up to their surrender, like the 2001, out of the 250 something of them built, 150 of them were the Re.2001 CN2 night fighters with 20mm wing guns replacing the 7.7mm's so though only 48 of the Re.2005 were built, you have to look at it from more of a service point of veiw (from which people tell me on here that it did see combat and squadron strength

Ic, just throwing this out there but the 109g2 was only 200pnds heavier then the 109f4, not much of a weight difference but it will make the turning radias bigger, but the engine power will make up for that

thats the trick too it though, the 205 2005 and G.55 all have the same Alfa Romeo RA. 1050 ( DB605A) engine making 1,475hp, so, the wieght of the 2005 may hamper it over the 205, but, the 2005's better wing design (less wing loading) should help it overcome the extra fat, but out of the three "5 Series" planes, the G.55 has both the lowest wing loading and the lowest loaded weight

LOL,well acording to italys national archive, yes virginia there is a santa claus(babo natale in italy) and yes it saw combat and yes it did shoot down enemy aircraft and yes the germans did use it in combat....but fuel was in short supply and mosy records were destroyed by anti fascists...does that mean it didnt have successes??  not at all. if a tree falls in the forest, the re 2005 still saw combat and still shot down aircraft.   at least more than the p-47N  and the ta- 152

They flew, they were stationed in Sicily with the 362nd, likely to fight the Invasion.  The 2005 does not fill a huge need in the plane set though.  Not like modeling the excellent Fiat CR42 Falco would.
