SU-152!
 :ahand

The vehicle inherited the nickname Zveroboy ("beast killer") from its predecessor, the SU-152, for its rare ability to reliably kill the best protected German fighting vehicles, the Panther tank, the Tiger and Tiger B tanks, and even the Elefant and Jagdtiger tank destroyers.

With all the 'up gunning' going on around here, I get the feeling some of you are compensating for a deficiency somewhere else.   :bolt:

Most of the guns were never used. the BL-10 (the huge 152mm) was put on, but was deemed inefficient for combat. both the SU-152 and ISU-152 used a short barreled 152mm

allow me to recheck my research, i do know that they were not first indented to destroy tanks and over 1000 were produced between 1943-1945. There were a couple variants and models.

the numbers seem right (to tired to look anything up at this point, calling on memory) and you are correct in saying that they were not originally designed for use against tanks. the short barreled 152mm was supposed to be used as an infantry support howitzer, for taking out building and such. however, there are accounts of that gun being shot at tigers and having 1 shell completely remove the tigers turret
