Happy, by plugging another keyboard into the USB port should automatically start the USB install program. As long as the computer itself is not locked up (if it is, did you do a hard reset? Complete shut down and restart). Once the "found a new USB hardware" wizard finishes it should install the "new" keyboard and/or mouse.

I don't think he can get there because of the password screen.  Go to www.Majorgeeks.com and start asking questions on their forum.  They are a great bunch and will be able to help you quickly.

Fugitive, ty 4 ur advice, however, I'm unable to plugin my present keyboard into a
USB port (presently am using wired kybrd/mouse on spouse's PC).

I was able to plugin wife's wired kybrd onto my PC, which operates mainly from USB
ports.  Login PW scrn still frozen   :frown:  Did a hard reset several times .. no help.

ToeTag, u were right, was unable to obtain results from Fugitive's advice much to my chagrin, shall try Majorgeeks' forum in addition to my never ending search to negate this frustrating dilemma.

A brief analogy, it's like forgetting ur keys at home, knowing where the keys are but
unable to enter ur domicile to access them. :(  Completely locked out!!

One other thing.  USB's on the front may be different than the ones on the back as far as their interface. Try the board USB's vs the wired to the board USB's.  Meaning plug it into the ones in the back.

usually a hard reset/unplugging machine restarts it. If you don't have a keyboard plugged when you restart it should error and not even boot. Restarted with a keyboard plugged into a different USB port "should" start the USB wizard and reinstall the keyboard before it  it load the password screen.

how long have you let it sit on the login screen before rebooting or turning it off?

windows has to do a hardware discovery when something new is plugged in...which is essentially what occurs when you roll back drivers and reboot...keyboard and mouse can take several minutes before full functionality is available on initial boot...takes several minutes for the mouse to be functional, and longer for a cordless mouse because 2 sets of drivers have to be loaded... without being able to actually look at what's happening, it's all guesswork...on that login screen, if you hit the tab key does it do anything noticeable?

Gentlemen:

Thx much for the kindness & tireless efforts u expanded to render me assistance, 'twas very much appreciated, unfortunately the end result was lacking, thereby I've taken my PC for repairs.

Everything's fine now & 100% operational  :)   :salute  :airplane:
