Looking for a bit of help
« on: March 24, 2011, 05:00:02 PM »
I am not a newb.  I have been flying for about a year, but I know that I am missing some important information about dogfighting and such.  I am looking for someone to fly with.....I guess like a trainer or something of the sort to help me out.  If anyone is willing please feel free to reply.  Thank you

Where are you from??  try jumping into the Training arena....you will usually find people who can help you there..probably get hold of a trainer there also so that you may sort some one on one time

Stop into the Axis v Allies arena some evening and let people know you're still learning (hey...aren't we all?).

Yea I might do that.  I am in a squad, but we are a base taking squad and not a fighter squad and I really wanted to hone my fighter skills so I will check out the training arena and axis. vs. allies.  I have been playing AH for about a year now, but I know I am missing out on certain moves and reversals and things of that nature that I know would be very beneficial to learn.

Seriously, save yourself a lot of time and work with an AH Trainer.

I was a mediocre pilot in Air Warrior.  Aces High was just different enough from Air Warrior that it gave me fits.  It took years to become mediocre all over.  By then, I'm too proud to ask for help because I've flown with or against them for years.

One day I'm working with a new squaddie in the TA when a Trainer, Ren, offers to help.  I fly as target drone while Ren helps the new guy.  After the new guy logs, Ren says "let's work on some stuff".  He had a structured process we went through.  I sensed that we were able to move through some things quickly because of my experience which allowed us to get to the things I needed help with.  For some things, he was an observer in my plane, then he lifted a plane and we played tag and did some things.

I immediately saw a difference in the MA.

Work with an AH Trainer.

Zekial,

All the trainers have the tag in their name,it's best if you PM one of them to setup a day and time that works for both you and the trainer, remember we're all volunteers so our time can be limited but we're spread across many time zones so hopefully one of us can be available at a convenient time for you.

To Bern1 and anyone else who is frustrated by NOT getting kills in fighters.......IT'S ALL UP TO YOU !!!

Trainers are NOT going to chase you down. If you WANT to learn contact a trainer. Click on Morfiends name and it will take you to his personal page. Scroll to the bottom and click on "Send this person a message". Type in who you are and what you need and what a good time for you to meet him is. If he can hook up with you he WILL, if not he will reply with another time, or may even forward your request to another trainer he knows that may be on at the times you requested.

Like Bern1 said, for every good guy there is a half dozen jerks. ALL of the trainers are top notch, and volunteer to do this to help out the community. If you don't seek them out, they don't know your out there. Before you give up, GET WITH A TRAINER !

I started playing in AW in 1996.  I learned on my own as I went.  Then about two years ago I started hosting the dueling tournament.  Every tournament I got my  :ahand handed to me in the first round.  Clearly there was a problem with my merge that 13 years of trial and error hadn't taken care of.

I spent some time in the TA and DA with Karaya, Lute and Sol working on my merge which helped.  Lute was also able to provide some help with my E-management as an offshoot to our session.  Then I set up time with Mtnman in the TA.  The hour and a half or two hours that we spent together were among the most valuable learning experiences in my flight sim career.  My merge is no longer an issue, I learned how to properly execute the barrel roll defense and we spent some time just playing around with the rolling scissors.  I really didn't need much help with that last part but hey, it's fun.   :D

I don't care how long you've played or what level you're at a session with a trainer will help you and at the risk of making these guys volunteer even more of their time I'd encourage everyone to set up some time with one.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

bern are you saying that FA was dumbed down a little? or things are taking you slightly longer to adjust?

Tuck is living proof that any idiot can land kills in AH     :neener:  I've seen it with my own eyes  4  in a Spitfire Mk IX!     :O

I'm glad I could help Bern. Most of what I told you I learned from Badboy's posts here and his articles at SimHQ. I recommend you read everything you can by Badboy to get a fuller explanation of what we covered.
