How do I say this?
« Reply #15 on: June 24, 2000, 06:08:00 AM »
Hey Kieren,
I hear ya.  The arena can get real juvenile sometimes, and when it's particularly trying I just squelch 1 from the get-go.

There'll always be people with little or no character, but they come and go.  You, however, are a part of what makes this community what it is, and because of that I hope you'll reconsider.

Kieren,

It's not going to get any better by having all the good sports(yourself included) leave. We have to stick together and fight the "Ego Horde"(tm).

I feel exactly the same way that you do, but I gave it some thought, and decided that I'm not going to let some juvenile jerks ruin a fantastic game.

You have always been a good person, both online and on this board. I for one value you as a member of this community, and even though I haven't ever encountered you in the air yet, I look forward to being able to S! you after you shoot me down.

As my squaddie Bike Killa said, "Keep the faith". Let's keep the faith together.

Kieren

Point # 1. Read all the above, shake well, add ice and pour yourself a cup every night before entering arena. I'm serious here!
Doctors orders!

Point #2 Was made above in about 15 diff ways. No one likes to admit to himself that he sucks as a pilot. Yet death means that we just blew it!  Yes some people have a problem dealing with this. Personally when I get frustrated I log, no goodbyes, no nothing.
Just alt + F4 & BAM I'm outa there & it's time to cool off.

Not everyone is so wise it seems.
However, don't let THEIR problems get to you!

Point #3, HTC because of it's 2 week free trial has a never ending stream of dweebs.
Most of these now arriveing have no clue how to behave online it seems. Ignore em if they whine, they'll learn faster!

As to the current level of whineing about the game itself, bugs, problems etc. All I can say is that whenever talking to HT & co I do my best not to whine. Lord knows they have the patience of saints. I try my absolute level best to keep it upbeat, positive, and respectfull. As a result most times if I watch my timeing I'll get an answer from HT.

It all comes down to a couple simple things.
Respect for your fellow man. If you want some you'll have to earn it, However, you owe it to them right from the start. Thats the way it is.
Consideration for the other guys feelings.
Chances are whatever your about to say you've had said to you. How did it make YOU feel?
Are you still POSITIVE you need to say it to him? How will it make HIM feel?

Last, some people won't get the hint no matter what. So every time you kill them they'll whine, call you cheater, lame, stupid, whatever. You just need to learn to tune them out. They really are not worth your time, trouble, & injured feelings.

Kieren, I've felt that too. Most of WB/Ah guys often told bad things about AW3 and how $10 flat rate was bringing Quake's kids in the sim. When I arrived here for the first time, a friend warn me about the athmosphere here way different than the AW3 FR (don't know for ohers).

One of my first kill in here was a AH famous and well ranked pilot (wich I will not name because we learned to respect each other later)...

I went on him in a P38, missed him, turned back, bleed all my E, barrely was able to bring the nose back to him while stalling.... pingpingpingcrack (TM)(C)... YES YES YES... my first kill in AH... Wohooo! The guy said on chanel one something like : 'Vulcher!'... Awsome, that ruined my first kill.

BTW, it wasn't a vulch because I was so dweeb that I bleed all my E and was stalling. Every arena has his whiners but here in AH it's more than everywhere, between the Dweebs who just came in and argue on how the planes behaves and the veterans who are frustrated because you shot them...Geez.

And of course, they are all the others who take the things as they come, shoot and kill in silence while the victim complains 'hey! I was typing'.

You don't want to die gangbanged, take a pony or BF109G10, climb from a rear base to 25K, B&Z, go below 15K only to outrun a 27K Zero and land.

My fun is more taking off from fields under attack and defend them, my k/d ratio proving it.

Kieren,
I hear ya.  When it gets a little bit too much I just squelch 1.  It helps.  I may miss some of the greetings from some friends from the dark sides, but the squelch helps.

I don't think he was talking about the 2 week crowd who we all diss, ignore or aid depending on mood, He was in fact, talking about the "old hands" the guys who are acknowledged to be good, yet for some reason, some of them tend to preceive any dent in the armor of their "experten" aura has a malicious attack and respond in text with less than grace, Last night I was flying
(As Wert again)   and encountered Roper who proceeded to pull my lil LA5 into all kinds of E bleeding moves (yeah I tried ta follow like a good little dweeb) wallowing nose high at 90 knots I see him turn in for the kill, my choices were simple, drop my nose for an HO, or bail out. I went for the attack and got a nasty present in the form of a hit in the head, but not before I sawed his wing off. Afterward on Ch 1 I apologized for the HO, but pointed out that he had left me nothing better, he responded that he thought that, and we had a friendly conversation. This in response to one of the worst dweeb moves around. It leads me to one conclusion, Class either ya have it, or ya don't, <S> Roper, a damn good pilot, and a lot of class. Nobody who feels things are getting ugly should leave, we make them clean up the act, or THEY can leave. It's our game, HTC makes it, but we play here, and no one is running me off this playground, understand?

Why cut your nose off to spite your face? Don't let a guy having a bad day make you quit, and even if you did it will happen in any sim you play, it did in WB and I'm sure it will happen in WW2OL. Some people start 'living' the sim and perhaps their anger is not really directed at you but you just happen to be an outlet for their anger against themselves for being shot down.

The realclip I linked to in this post maybe a good idea, how about we disable a player's comm for a minute or two following his death.

This post as are all my posts is unecessary.   That said...Keiren, I have the utmost respect for you and sypathize with your plight. Personally, I usually do a mental ".squelch" most of my time flying. I pay most attention to the squad text and after that local and country text. Every once in a while I'll catch a blurb on open ch.
I think I've restricted my whining on the open channel to choice comments about chute shooters, that being my pet peeve. For all you AH flyers, If ya catch me whinin please ignore me, it usually meens that my ex. has pissed in my cornflakes yet again.
On another note(read whine); my current A#1 peeve to pet is kill thiefs. My countrymen who seem to think that ANYTHING not ground clutter is a fair target. I've let loose a few choice ones fer that offence, at some who are considered "SH pilots". On a couple occasions lately I've de-winged aircraft and pulled off, only to see someone else swoop in a take the kill just before he hits the dirt. Not cool guys. If it flutters like a leaf, its prolly already dead. One such person who was not named, after realizing what he'd done, pulled off of the next kill and let me have it. I thought that was very classy. <nuff said>
In the future I'll try to keep my mouth shut to insure I don't stick my great ol' big foot in it and let the chips fall as they may.

Kieren;

Odd to see your post here, considering the discussion we had last night in the MA.

For some reason I have let frustration creep into my mind concerning AH.  Then for some silly other reason I am letting this bleed over into my interactions with my fellow players.

For example, in the MA I am doing crazy stuff like taking intentional HO's and enjoying it.  Then I am sometimes accusing other players of dweebery because I am fully aware of what a sensitve subject it is.  I completely realize that I am the one playing the dweeb and that I am doing this just for the fun of it.

For some even crazier reason, I had thought that you and I had some remote familiarity with each other and that my dubious comment would be more or less funny.  My comment to you, from my perpective, was really quite good natured.  I had thought you might consider the situation comical and my comment only adding to your delight.

However; I realize that I just simply added just another straw to your poor camel's tired back.

So sorry...  I grovel at your feet to be forgiven.

Keiren, while I have never had the oppertunity to be pitted against you (thank god, according to the other posters about your skills), I have always found your postings on the BB to exude class.

It would be a shame to lose such a class act.

Maybe another perspective is in order Keiren.  Look at it this way;  If the whiners manage to run off all the class players, they win.
Now, mind you, I am about as competitive as it gets, and I simply refuse to allow whiners, poor sports, or any other person of that ilk to run me off from the game.
I will not allow them to win in this manner.  If they cannot beat me in the air, they certainly will not beat me on the radio.

I also will not allow anyone to pull me to thier level.  I am better than that, and if I allow them to pull me to thier level, I have become no better than they are.

Personally, I find the insults and fighting on the public channel between pilots quite funny.  If they could stand back and see what they are doing, they would feel pretty small,...if they have any class or dignity in them at all.

My 2 cents worth...
