Clipboard Map Compass Directions.
« on: March 26, 2011, 02:10:39 PM »
Inflight it would be nice to be able to pick a spot on the map and get the
compass heading that we need to turn to arrive at that "General" spot.

Liken it to a navigator plotting a course to a particular rendezvous/waypoint or target.

Maybe make a flight planner option on the E6B selection.

He wants to be able to plot 2 points on the map, and have the computer give you a heading.

Example:
"Now, if I had to make the choice of one fighter aircraft above all the others...it would be, without any doubt, the world's greatest propeller driven flying machine - the magnificent and immortal Spitfire."

I like this...especially for bombers over long distances.  The map seems distorted....you'll line up and think you're ok but end up missing your mark.

Perhaps a tool you could select, clink on a point and drag to a 2nd point....it gives you distance and heading....like using a plotter on a chart.

Also flight paths "drawn" (e.g. with the same algorithm used for CV waypoints) on clipboard map, shared by mission leader with mission members.  Makes coordination with different mission elements easier, e.g. goons go this way at this altitude, escorts take this path to act as buffer, jabos stay NOE till this waypoint, etc.

there is already a waypoint feature for missions. It is rarely used due to "spys".

Great idea.  If the waypoint system could be a bit more in depth for mission planning, I'd post more missions.

But there's only one waypoint for the whole mission isn't there?  Either way if it's never used the idea might not have much merit, except for personal notes which IMO would get at least some use.  Either for yourself, or shared with your squad.

I don't have anything against the idea. I'd like to use it, it's just that I wish some people couldn't see the mission planning. Would be nice if you could limit the mission info/waypoints so that only certain people/squads could see it.
