Try to record on windows sound recorder with it. Does it capture sound?

It would probably help a little if you told which type of microphone is in question is it usb or analog?

Everything else being equal a USB headset will use more CPU cycles to do the sound than one plugged into a sound card.

On most modern machines it may not be enough to be noticeable, but it is there.

it is an analog. checked settings, mic does record in recorder. I did notice that i can hear myself speak anytime i use it, and there is a feedback issue ie a squeal like when you point a mic at a speaker.db boost is active.

Hi,

Does your sound card drivers have an option to allow you to talk in the background while playing games (called VoiceEX w/ the option for Local VoiceEX (output to speakers))?
My sound card is an Asus Xonar series that has this feature. If this feature is checked (Local VoiceEX) you will get the issues that you're saying that you have (you will hear yourself talking thru your speakers & w/ mic boost enabled & if your speakers are in range of your mic you will get feedback). Sometimes this feature is enabled by default when the drivers are loaded.

Don't know if this is the case for you but you might check for this.

Since AH has it's own voice comms system I think that when this feature is enabled it prevents you from tramsmitting over AH's voice comms but not sure on this 1 (making speculation).

Hope this helps.
