save folder for films
« on: March 29, 2011, 09:43:31 AM »
Among preferences - view, gun-sight, gui, etc. - could we have a films save folder option?

If no, why not?

I've wanted that for a while too. Requested it more than once too, if I recall.

It would be nice to actually see what my in-game head movements see. That way when I check my 6 I see the con, instead of in the default mode I see the back of my seat.

We do, it's within your 'films' sub-folder.
*EDIT

Sorry lulu, I misread your post. I completely agree!

Why do you want this?

I want it so that when I make a video of Aces High footage, the following is true:

- people see my view angles as I see them in-flight. I can't show how I'm looking side-front to see under my nose if all the film viewer shows is straight ahead "default" head position.

- people can see my custom gunsights if I am using them. Otherwise the film viewer will again default back to the standard. Means if you're going for some interesting historic video it would show IJA gunsights on the Ki-61, and LW gunsights on the 109G6, etc

As-is, unless you record directly in-game with fraps you can't replicate your saved head positions when looking around.

Since the film viewer is not using the AH head positions/gunsights, he's asking that we have a custom folder we can copy these into. I would be just as happy tying the files to the AH game files, but there is another aspect:

- You could use it as a training/comparison tool, swap in and out head positions to compare them or train newer pilots about the differences these make. Replay the film with your head positions, stop, copy in somebody else's head files, and re-watch the film (for example).

It could be of benefit when creating training films.

Along this line, I wish we had the ability to tell Aces High where we want films saved to in the set up options.

This way, some of us could use SSDs and not continuously write to them.  It would be nice to not have to go into the main AH game directory to find our films either.

When naming the film we could drop it in a folder relevant to that setup.... FSO, plane types, training, etc.

Have a master film folder and any folder listed under that master will be accessable when saving a film.

Doing a full directory dialog box every time you turn the film recorder off is too much of a hassle, especially if you're trying to save on an entirely different drive and sub directory.

The ability to do so can be set on or off by a check box in setup.

I meant I would like a way to specify directory path outside of a dialog. To send it to a secondary drive automatically without browsing. That's a lot of lost/wasted time while still trying to remain in flight.

But then, we're getting off track, I guess.

I'd be ok with the setup I described. It would make it much easier if I later wanted to move them all or just one folder to one of my other drives.
