A couple of holes in the story, One is that they claim the kid didn't watch WW2 documentaries or have any exposure to this sort of thing but fail to mention that they took him to WW2 air museum where they have a Corsair on display.

Also the pilot he is supposedly reincarnated as, apparently went down in an FM2 not an F4U.

http://skeptico.blogs.com/skeptico/2005/07/reincarnation_a.html

I never discount the possibility of the "unknown", but this story may or may not be what it seems..

Don't ever doubt that there are a lot of attention hungry people who might latch onto one strange coincidental thing and almost subconsciously invent the rest of the story.

Edit: I'd also find the story more compelling if they had convinced a therapist who didn't believe in reincarnation in the first place.

The main indicator this story isn't true is the ship the navy pilot served on, USS Natoma Bay.  USS Natoma Bay was an escort carrier, smaller than the front line carriers and the squadrons (composite) were a mix of TBMs and FM2s.  Had the father done the research he claimed he had, he would have easily found this by looking at VC-81's squadron history.

This is the official VC-81 squadron's account of Lt. Huston's death.
Quote
The 16th day at Iwo Jima, 3 Mar. 1945, was eventful. It opened with a strike on a reported concentration of large enemy transports at Chichi Jima. Eight FM-2' s from this squadron participated in the attack. They made three attacks; on the first firing rockets at the shipping and on the second and third attacking AA positions to protect the torpedo bombers which were following. The shipping was identified as one medium transport vessel and small FTC class freighters. Damage was observed. On the first attack as the fighters were retiring toward the entrance to Futami Harbor, The FM-2 piloted by Lt.(jg) Huston was apparently hit by AA fire. The plane went into a 45° dive and crashed into the water just inside the harbor. It exploded on impact and there was no survivor or wreckage afloat. He was one of the squadron's better pilots. He was quiet and unassuming, always alert and his keen eyes tally-hoed everything within sight. He was always the first to sight aircraft and shipping; he tally-hoed the only submarine sighted by the squadron. He was credited with the destruction of four airborne enemy aircraft.

Not saying its a hoax, but more like wishful thinking on the parts of the parents and to help promote the book they wrote.

Picture a 2 year old waking up in the middle of the night saying "Mommy! Airplane crash on fire. Little man cant get out."

That was just plain spooky

That was another thing, If you were channeling a memory from RL why "Little man? "Little man" would seem to refer to a model or toy.

Interesting story. Unfortunately this story fails to convince me of the existence (or possibility) of reincarnation. This story sort of reminds me of the article I read last week of a boy who claimed to have visited heaven. I believe the parents of this boy who "visited heaven" made up things to the story to make it appealing to the media.

It's really all in what you believe.

LOL, Is that show still on? I hear repeats on the radio from time to time but they are from like 1998 or something.

Anyway, I'm still not discounting the possibility that this kid is a reincarnated fighter pilot, but I'm also not discounting the possibility that it's horse hockey.

Way to take a stand huh?

EDIT: I found this video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWCUjx4nI98&feature=player_embedded#at=291

They are really doubling down with all kinds of other stuff this kid supposedly knew about the fighter pilots family and how they took him to a reunion where he knew some of his alleged shipmates by name.

Know way of knowing if this stuff is true but it certainly is a little creepy.

Well, one way you know this is pretty much bullchit is the simple fact that if this kid was the reincarnation of Lt.(jg) Huston, you would think he would know what plane he flew during the war.
