Hmmm... the BBS doesn't seem to want to take my post.
Of all the members of this BBS that absolutely despise my existance,
I never thought the BBS itself would turn on me.

ok./....you got me. i forgot about that. one time so far. and it wasn't an accident. it was carelessness or negligence somewhere along the line on someone's part.  :aok

You're right on the point that it hasn't ruined anything though, up here
at least. I think the main reason for that is the fact that once you get
far enough up North where all the oil is, there's not much more than
empty tundra and a few white bears.

Look up 'North Slope' in google images for an idea of what I'm saying,
the particular picture I'm thinking of is the airborne one that gets a
good few of the surrounding marsh/empty flatlands.

Penguin, You have sdome good thoughts...if they were feasible. Nearest train station for me...half an hour car ride. Nearest bus stop? 10 minute car ride. mind you, I live in a area of agriculture so I have open roads and moderately high speed limits. Mass transit would not be feasible for me or my other town citizens. Nuclear power is great and all, but what if we get sdome freak accident at one of them and we cant keep the other ones running right? our power grid...was watching a show on the discovery channel and our power grid is so out dated i forget by how many years. I dont mean to flame you or pick you apart, as most of these reasons have been mentioned, but for some of us these possibilities are very limited.

back on subject, and to the community, We as a nation have the technology and the expierence to create more fuel efficent cars. MY 2000 Mazda is getting 30 mpg around town, but we look at these BRAND NEW Cadillacs that have all this fancy stuff in them and they're getting what? maybe 18 or 19 mpg around town. something is wrong with that. why is it we as acountry can not keep fuel economy half decent in our newer vehicles?

Go ahead, pick me apart.  That which does not kill me makes me stronger.  A ten minute car ride, you say?  At what speed?  If you (by you, I refer to all of the posters) work in the city, why live in the country?  I've never quite understood that logic.

Alaska : Nearest logical housing location : ~50 miles from work.
Not qualified for military housing. No homes available in the city
for a family of five? No real good schools in between? Would
rather live near my one friend who has stuck by my side thick
and thin since I was three?

These are but a few factors that come into play for me, a good
half hour commute every morning, too and from Ft. Richardson
for my stepdad.

I'm not big for picking things apart. If the oppertunity presents itself and i'm well educated on the subject or wish to further my knowledge I will. I live in the country, and as far as going to the bnearest bus station, the minimum speed limit is 45 MPH.most of the time however the speed limit is 50. My Family lives i nthe country, and pretty well works in the country (except for my dad when he has work.)

Let me rephrase that it's 8 miles to the closest city with a CAT bus stop.  To the closest stop is almost 10 miles from my apartment.  The buses only run on the week days and there isn't one past 1935 heading to Little Rock.  Which fits my work schedule great ,I work 2200-0600 Weds-Thur and 2200-1000 Fri-Sat.  Now I would use it if I could because it's cheap as anything.
