Aces High going to see a little competition in the future?
« on: April 01, 2011, 08:35:15 PM »
If this isn't an April's Fool joke by Gaijin, looks like AH will be seeing some competition in the coming year.

Interesting find. I wonder what other features the game might have, besides the plane selection and their "realistic" flight sim modeling.

Is that a K4/G10 with gondolas?

..and a P51D shooting only 4 .50s?

Eh, I'll stick to AH.
I'd rather stick by the guys who stuck by us when none of the bigger companies wanted to keep their flight sim going, and who listen to the community regarding bugs and improvements.
The latter carries a lot of weight with me.

Considering their last affair was Wings of Prey which was essentially a console to PC port with an arcade flight model, I would be interested to see what their "realistic" flight model will be like.

Upgrading and buying new planes...I'll let someone else be the guinea pig on this one.

Saw that too, which leads me to think that if this is real then it's probably going to be a F2P game with an item mall.  Basically, skill will probably not be determined on how you fly but what power-ups you buy.

Didn't P-51Ds have a secondary trigger for firing the outboard machine guns?

Yes, in AH I know you can fire the 4 outboard .50s or the 2 inner .50s. The screenshot is showing the 2 inner and 2 outer .50s being fired.. no damage is present either.  :headscratch:  :uhoh

It could always inadvertently help business as well.  If such a game draws a crowd into the WW2 combat genre, they may be more likely to discover this superior game and jump ship.  That is assuming it is superior which I'm sure it is.

Call it "free indirect advertisement".

I recall HiTech saying something to the effect that the last thing a company wants is to be the last man standing of a dying industry.  That was in reference to somebody's comment about the health, or lack thereof, of WarBirds III at the time Fighter Ace was closing down.

Competition is good.

dunno the part about fixing your plane with a screwdriver is fishy

For real hardcore simmers there will be a way to tune and fix your plane's engine with a «screwdriver». Now it is even more realistic than in a real life where there were technicians for that.

Yea...             more realistic then in real life.   Ummm   OK  :huh

Although this:

Quote
Combat is always going on, in a real time on a huge area of Eastern, Western, Pacific, and Mediterranean theatres of war. And the situation on the battlefield will be affected only by players. Countries can be defeated if all infrastructure and all ground armies will be destroyed. Pilots of victorious countries will get new ranks, and war will re-start again. It's expected that average duration of each war will be about 3 months.

sounds like it might really appeal to those AH players whose primary game play mode is to capture bases and win the war.

Then this:

Quote
Another key feature is the realism. In contrast to «Wings of Prey» where was 'Arcade' mode «World of Planes» will have no concessions for an inexperienced player. The developers promise the most realistic game that could impress even experienced virtual pilot. However, it is expected that the game will be suitable even for beginners, but how it will be achieved is a secret yet.

Which is in direct contradiction to itself.  So... there will be no concessions for inexperienced players.  Yet, the game will be suitable even for beginners. again...  :huh

Picking up on what AH did right: high fidelity physics and dynamics of flight and air combat (no concessions to new players), but accessible enough for new players thanks to streamlining E.G. combat trim. Or relaxed realism arena of some kind.  "How it will be achieved is secret yet" is marketing device.
