I also love the Jug. IT's such a big tasty target. Not like those small little Lalas and Spits or those darn multi target P38s, the Jug is one big solid bullet sponge. Tater meet Jug, Jug met Tater  :devil

For whatever reason, (ya can check plane stats), lotta folks use the N as a gv-popper. D40 would be far better choice--it climbs TONS faster with ord

It really just depends on how much fuel a P47N takes in addition to the ords. A 47N with 50% fuel and ords would certainly outclimb a D40 with full fuel and ords.

(50% fuel) N + wep mid 1900's feet per minute (this lasts ~ 5 min or so, takes 10 or so to cool off)
(Full fuel) D-40 + wep mid 1700's feet per minute

N sans wep 1100 feet per minute
D40 sans wep 1250 feet per minute

With N, if ya hit target with engine overheated, drop ord/lose alt, you have a big, fat, LOW plane with no extra horsepower--also, 75% gas in D40 would be better comparison

Frankly, I like the M Jug as a B-29 killer - it is fast at high alt,  8 x .50s rip B-29s to shreds, and it has enough toughness to take fire from a B-29 and live.  Have to agree with the poster earlier that many people fly it like a pansy tho - the "N"aughty flyers are usually loaded full of ord and taking it to a base down low which is why I think the K/D ratio is so much different.

You're all missing the most obvious point and that is the "M" default paint sceme if far cooler than any other jug paint jobs. It is far more suave to fall out of the sky in a flaming hulk with cooler paint.
