Offline film viewer records at higher sample rate and inputs
« on: April 03, 2011, 07:55:06 AM »
Films are recorded at similar data rate as other players' planes can be seen if you join someone online.  Assuming this is because it'd be too expensive to record at higher rates when there can be so many other planes' position and acceleration to also record, could the film viewer record at higher data rates when offline, and could it also record control inputs?

This would allow much better, much more useful demo films where you'd see much smoother/more detailed maneuvering. You'd also see what the player's inputs are, unlike now where at the worst of times it's just impossible to guess them.  Ideally there'd be an option to display the input telemetry on the side, like you can see e.g. in TV race footage.

Only for AH with stick, throttle, rudder positions, and maybe something that shows the input and the effective control surface's position, since often enough the two are different.

Maybe one quick and dirty solution for higher online recording rates would be to record only the player and the plane that he's padlocked, if you select an option somewhere for that narrower recording focus.  Then you could compare the two's telemetry during a dogfight like is done for two racers on the same racetrack.
