Need some input on business cards
« on: April 04, 2011, 01:44:11 AM »
I was starting to order my business cards tonight. Then it struck me, Should I use an address? I won't have clients here at the house but still it was bothering me. I was thinking about using the address section to further define the business.

Any input would be welcome.

Thanks!

If you plan on receiving mail I recommend you put the address on it.

Also business cards looks weird without an address.

With my cards I only use a P.O.Box number....not sure what you guys call them...

If you don't have a post box you will need some form of address to receive mail

That's a darn good point!! Especially payment for services assuming its not sent directly to my checking.

Get a drop box for mail. You'll need it.
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.

A PO box is dirt cheap at the post office and it has the nice advantage of getting mail service very early in the day instead of waiting for the little truck to finally wander past.

On my way to the post office.

Folks you have been great! I wonder how I missed something so basic. LOL.

when I see a PO Box, first thing I wonder is what are they trying to hide?

use your real address, that way clients can do any checking they might want to (or be required to by law). ie. company registration, credit checks, membership of professional bodies, criminal background checks, money laundering etc etc.

edit: on the money laundering thing, we are now obliged to do a sanctions check on all our clients against the HMT list (database of individuals suspected of involvement with terrorism, international organised crime etc.)

I checked myself and got flagged!

Apparently I might be ex-Liberian president Charles Taylor. even though I'm pretty sure he's in a UN jail in Holland somewhere at the moment.

Why did I get flagged? Because about 10 years ago I lived at an address in Charles Street ...

Dang, that makes sense too!

I'm sure glad I brought my thoughts here.

If you have room perhaps you could put both addresses?
The way I see it, it shows that you 1) not afraid to show your real address,
clearing up RT's thoughts, and 2) you would have two places to collect mail
(IE you don't get one inbox swamped or something).

Just a thought. <-- zero experience business noob

No room on the card for that. However, my invoice can list a p.o. box.

I picked my new cards up from the printer's the other day. The paper is bone, and the type is Sillian Braille.

Very nice.

My business has a PO Box.  The USPS won't deliver reliably to the hangar and after enough lost pieces of mail enough was enough.  Send it to the post office that's on the way to work, pick it up and life is good.  This also enables multiple employees to get the mail on their way in so if one person isn't going in another can get access to whatever they might need.

When I'm on a trip and having something delivered I'll have it sent there.  I'm on a first name basis with the folks at my local post office with all the mail holds I do to where I live if I'm going to be gone longer than 4-5 days.  This way it's not risking sitting out on my doorstep and being swiped (Springfield Armory M1A buttstock cleaning kit someone got for free off my doorstep) or damaged by being out in the elements.  It really makes life easy and it's not expensive...a hundred something for the year for the one I got.  Bigger items they put in the larger lock boxes and leave a key in your PO box.

All this running around makes me think I need a secretary.  Or a wife.  I'll go with the secretary  :D
