What does a front line look like during WWII?

Been researching stuff related to http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,310230.0.html

I have an idea what WWI fronts looked like with no mans land and trenches etc.

you could make iconic representations of troops in wwI with Trenches that look occupied that produce asthetic small arms fire torward enemy trenches. and then show them as unoccupied perhaps with a scorched bombed out looking trench showing it was destroyed.


but what for WWII? how would you within the confines of a game likes Aces High represent a destructable front line?

use the trench representation from wwI?


I am interested in an idea of somthing that is bombable explodable and can be resupplied with troop drops from sdk/m3/c47. in fact once resupplied theoretically more troop drops could advance on the enemy position and destroy it since this is the front lines no?

I've done mass c47 troop drops years ago and thats the picture in my head if you get my meaning. somthing epic. like the battle in star wars attack of the clones with all the gunfire visible from above etc

nm all you would need is ambiance of explosions and shell crater graphics if using an occupation capture the flag mechanic. the actual tanks sittin on the capture area would be the only thing needing destroying.

then the front line for the succesful side mobilizes from its previous position and advances to the new position.

you could tie in strat to this by how long it takes to occupy new ground for it to be captured modified by how far down the enemy city/factories are.

ie 10 minutes numerical superiority. 5 minutes if the enemies strat targets are obiterated and yours are up.

15 minutes if your sides strat is destroyed to take the ground.

if both sides at 0 strat it equalizes back to 10 minutes each to take the ground.

I'm sure it would be difficult to visualize the front line from the air unless there was natural or man made fortifications. I think the best way to do this would be to recreate those fortifications like hedge rows or the man made defenses at Kursk.

For static frontlines on the eastern front it would look kinda like WWI.
