It's undoubtedly the best WW1 flight sim to come out since Red Baron 3D and Rowan's Flying Corps.  As you've already noticed, the graphics are absolutely stunning and the added eye candy not only adds to the beauty of the game but also vastly increases the immersion factor.

Excellent and is not based on IL2's flight model and does not have that "flying on rails" feeling that I used to get with IL2.  Each plane has their own distinct feel when flying them.

The damage model is also on par with the flight model, each plane is divided into sub-objects, and each smaller part of an aircraft when damaged is calculated separately.

It also models wake vortex turbulence and a thermodynamic model of the internal combustion engine, with the physical and chemical processes of the actual engine cycle.

Aircraft collisions with obstacles (earth or water) are simulated on the basis of collision-physics and hydrodynamics theory.

The game also models plane fatigue dependent on previous damage, fuel quality and other things that can influence plane performance.

If you get the US re-release (the Iron Cross Edition) it comes with 8 flyable planes and one bonus one (dependent on distributor) and you can buy additional flying planes as they are released and there have been quite a few since the game launched.  You don't have to purchase these additional planes if you don't want.  If you choose not to buy the extra planes, you still get the non-flyable versions automatically.

777 Studios has also revamped the multiplayer, adding a A2A mode and improving the co-op missions.  They are also currently revamping the single player campaign, and from the sounds of it it's going to be a drastic improvement over the current campaign system.  The mission editor is also rather robust.

The only negative is it can be rather difficult to find a multiplayer game at times.

Oh, a warning about the game

Its lots of fun but if you switch between it and AH, it will mess up your AH or RoF flying.  Other than that, I'd recommend it.
Yeah, that's right, you just got your rear handed to you by a fuggly puppet!

I agree with everything Ack-Ack said.

I'm no FM expert but it has a really nice feel to it.  There is something about it (not sure what it is) but I get more of a realistic feel when flying.  I'm not claiming its more accurate, just that I get more of the feel I am actually in the crate flying around.  Maybe the higher graphical detail gives better visual cues.

It is resource intensive.  I have had slow downs and stutters in big missions.  Some of that may be my Vista.

I agree on lack of MP, tho I haven't tried it in a while.  If I were 777 Studios I would setup some company run servers 24/7.

Probably the biggest key to me is they are actively developing and improving it.  I was wondering if they were just going to dump out that initial release and run with the money.  However, at least for now, they seem intent on making it a success.  If they setup a persistent MMO world with some depth of game-play they would get my money from day one.  Even if I have to go out and buy a whole new rig.

Its been a rocky road.  There have been big problems and continue to be.  But they haven't quit.  They keep on chipping away at it with regular updates.  There is a niche market there to be harvested.  They seem intend on capturing it.

There aren't any other companies taking the WWI genre seriously.  Its not a joke or toss-away for them.  For that alone I'll buy as many of their planes as I can and try and support them any other way I can.

I'm going to upgrade to Win7 to see if that help my performance, if not, I'll go machine shopping.  :D

Wab
