(not a whine) B-29 Question?

The A model B-29 i have in 1/48th scale has a radar underneth it? how common were these radars, and how come HTC didnt model them? is it because they dont have the codes fore radar bombing or was it because it wasnt common?

Not all 29s had them.  Like the B17 and 24, I'd imagine they were used mostly as Pathfinder birds with additional crew members to operate the radar.  You wouldn't have a formation full of them, just one or two of the lead birds in case the target was clouded over and they had to radar bomb.  The rest of the 29s would release their bombs on the lead birds release.

would be nice but i dont think people would like it. we already have laser guided bombsites.

Most of the B-29 missions toward the end were flown at night and the radar techs had been taught to recognize coastal outlines to use as reference for bombing. The same bombers also only carried ammo in the lower guns (no guns were removed from the planes though). As they got more acquainted with the equipment they learned to bomb by radar even on inland targets. A lot of the later B-29s had the radar units but missions only needed one or two per wing to be useful. In LeMays book on the Superfortress he admits they were not very good with the radars at first but got better quickly... especially after he insisted that navigators and bombardiers learn to draw the target in their sleep. AH has no weather or darkness that would make the radars more useful.

it has 2 one for the B-29 used in WW2 and the other was with SAC durinf the korean war it was a small norrow umm can shaped one  with a rounded bottom and the larger one wide and more squat and domed shape with a flat rounding at the bottom. the nose arts that came with the model is humpin hunny(ww2 B-29A) and cream of the crop(B-29 from the korean war)

Some folks mistake the radar dome on the B29 for a ball turret
