Movie Editing software? (something to this affect)
« on: April 09, 2011, 11:21:26 PM »
Ok, so im in my last 9 weeks of my senior year in High school and for my writing class we are doing a satirical/parody/movie project. We dont really know exactly what we are doing yet, but im on the hunt for an editing software that we can use to make our movie.

I want something that we can edit clips and do composite clips with. Like i want to be able to add things into movie clips (like if we had a green screen for example). However im hoping to keep it cheap.

this project is being done by our entire class and will be like a whole months worth of actual production.

Here is the idea i submitted tonight to sort of give you an idea on what type of editing we might possibly be doing.

Main basis: The final project is going to be sort of like a SNL show in a way that its going to be made up of many skits. We are going to be doing parodies and satires of everything that has to do with MTV and VH1 and the new "modern" culture of kids these days.

One of my ideas for one of the skits is to do a top 10 music video countdown like what can be seen on VH1. The music videos would be made by us and for songs that we would choose that have been really popular plus can be turned really funny. So we need to be able to make these music videos really good. So im hoping for some type of program that has a reasonable price that we can use to edit and create these music videos plus the entire movie. Like since we are so early in the process, i cant give an exact example of what we would like to do, but hopefully someone will know of a program that would be very useful to us.

i think whatever it is, it needs to have a large base of special effects. Something to the affect of being able to bracket a video within a video (like us being able to place another video in a tv screen of the actual video or something like this). But i really dont know.

So anyone know of a good program?

Vegas is great. If not, Windows movie maker may be fine for you.

ive used MM a lot and its okay, but im looking to step up the quality and possibilities with editing software.

like for a comercial we did, i wanted to rewind the video, but to do that, you have to take pictures of every frame and then add them into the video backwards and speed up the length of time for each picture so it looks like a rewind. But it looks choppy when you do that.

for the trials, is it a timed trial and if so, how long? does anyone know?

You don't have to do all that to play a video backwards in Vegas, it has a built-in feature for it... I know cause I've used it.  I can't imagine anyone needing something better than Sony Vegas for a high school project.  Best of all, the trial period is free, and if you need longer than the trial period its pretty inexpensive and IMO very worth the price.  Its also the only Sony product I recommend without reservations.

As for the length of the trial period, its 30 days.
