Amazon for buying flat sceens?
« on: April 10, 2011, 12:42:03 AM »
My television started to act up so I looked around today to see what I would like to replace it with.

I am kind of leaning towards this model.

http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921666294437&XID=O:sony%20bravia%20kdl55ex720:dg_tv_gglsrch:bravmod_brm-kdl55ex720_p_6543335044_55ex720prod

For the most part local stores here in Ohio are all about the same price give or take a few dollars. So popped on to Amazon & they have it listed at just under $1600.00 not a bad deal at all. :aok

I have an account with Amazon & have had no problems with these guys :aok Just never have bought anything of this amount before with them.

So question is has any one had any experience in doing a flat screen with Amazon?

I bought a Samsung flat 32" for about the same amount about 5 years ago.  TV didn't develop dark spots until after the extended warranty was over, which was 3 years.   :noid

TV continues to work, although not as nice as when it was new, but I was going to replace it after 5 years anyway with a better, bigger and cheaper one.

Glad I bought it on Amazon a the time, as it saved me ~300 dollars when compared to the local stores.

I know that if someone who lives locally calls my shop and needs repair or advice on a product that I sell , yet they have bought"cheaper" online, I put them at the very bottom of my list.

Thats if I even bother to put them on my list. Maybe they should try contacting their cheapo website for help.

Buy local!!

Guess it depends on what you call local. Sears bestbuy hhgregg that is about it when it comes to local for buying televisions. All fine stores but not what I would consider keeping $$$ in the community.

my advice, don't buy electronic devices from Amazon.

it took them 2 weeks to ship my joystick, on a 2-day shipping garuntee.

Amazon itself has been hit or miss in my experience.  They are bad for saying something is in stock, then telling me there will be a long shipping delay once I place my order, telling me it is out of stock!  One time I bought a book through them and it was back ordered three times at a month each, before I finally gave up and bought it off of E-Bay.
Buying through the "other sellers" listing the item (the affiliates program) usually gets me the same item for less money, especially buying a book used over new, and almost never a problem.

I bet the people who work at those stores would disagree.

I've used Amazon for several large perchases and never really had an issue. Be carefull about the shipping though lyric, when the TV arrives make sure your home and inspect it very well, even going as far as to plug it in to make sure it works fine. I receive TVs everyday from freight company's and 1 out of 20 or so has concealed damage so be carefull.

Also I am a Sony and Samsung dealer and I have to be honest, the Samsung looks better in my showroom...alot better. If you can still find one the Samsung UN55C6300(UN55C7000 for 3D) was going for around $1700 now that the new "D" models are coming out. I have had HHGregg match online pricing too, when I needed a local TV in a pinch.

Good Luck!

Check Costco if you have one locally before you buy. I bought a 27" Samsung P2770 monitor from them at my local store for 249.00. Same monitor on Amazon, Bestbuy, hhgregg, etc... was about 50.00 higher.

Bought a 52" Samsung from Amazon last year.  Did a lot of research and they had by far the best price, plus no tax and no shipping.  CEVA delivered it in 5 days, and carried it down into my basement, took it out of the box, set it up and checked for dead pixels.

Great experience, and would do it again. :aok

Have to agree with the Samsung looking better.

We sold TVs for about a year then dropped them altogether.Almost no profit to be made thanks to online "retailers" dumping them for a little above or sometimes below cost.

However, while we did have them, I had my choice of many brands to choose from when I made my purchase.

I settled on the Sammy unb467000 led tv. It was hands down the best picture I could find.

I understand that Boner, we are happy to break even on video as long as it gets us in the door and we're making money on other products(audio and labor). Yep, the 7000 series is a great panel no matter what size TV it's in.
