Request: Skytrain Navy skin
« on: April 12, 2011, 07:22:52 PM »
Would be nice if someone with the skills set aside the time to make one when the new C47 comes out. Glad to see the default doesn't have the D-Day "horde magnet' stripes on top.

I'll be redoing most of the C-47s I skinned on the current shape including the blue USN one.

Shame you can't get rid of the horde magnet icon as well, isn't it? :)

Good to hear and thank you.
As for the big red C47 sign, keep it low enough and the icon is not a problem from many angles. But with skins disabled the stripes stand out more on the goon than with any other AC IMHO.
Now, if we had some swells in the oceans so a goon could sneak in like a cruise missile we'd really have some fun. May loose half a NOE strike force to the waves but that's half the laughs anyway :D

I am intending to start with the Soviet and RAF skins as they are most needed for scenarios. Then the USN, RAAF and maybe a PTO USAAF one.

There is not much mirroring or stretching on the new C-47 so there's no real restrictions on what aircraft can be skinned, like there was on the old shape. So if you want me to do a different RAAF C-47 this time Lyric, I can.

I can also redo the Finnish one I skinned for the Karelia terrain, if it is still needed.

The Arunta is a good choice has some nose art did a bit of everything during the war stay with this one as far as RAAF is concerned.

Now I think you might want to take a look at this US squadron there is some nice nose art with these guys.  :aok

I would think they would want it.  Shoot it to me when you get it finished and I will make sure the CM TT has it as usual.

BTW thanks again for the "Betties".  They are going to be soo useful.   ;)  Also that new default B-29 on Japan!

I've started on a Soviet Li-2 then I'm going to do the PTO goon after a request from Fencer.

Those photos are nice Lyric, but I'd need tail codes etc. to do a skin though. The PTO profile is a possibility but not Honey Bun as its too similar to the default skin. There's a lot of C-47A skins I want to do and I don't want to fill up too many slots.

So far the victory line tag C-47's are all that I have so far I will dig around some more.

Here you go.

Threw this one in only because of the red on the insignia.

I would think this would be a stretch for inclusion? Thought I would throw it out there for debate. :D

Panel lines for those who may need them.

Thanks Lyric,

I'll skin Marjorie Ann, nothing like a bit of aviation porn.  :D

Honeymoon Express has a different number on the photo to the profile for some reason.

I'm sure that Search and Rescue scheme would be a really popular choice in the MA.......

I hope not too far off the path: What is the max altitude of the C-47? During the war, what alt were standard troop drops?

I'm guessing the Japanese skin will be redone as well, correct?

Yes, I am redoing the Japanese skin. Forgot to add it to the list earlier.

Allied para drops were done from very low altitude, around 800 ft IIRC. This was to reduce the time the vulnerable troops spent floating to earth. However this low flying made the slow C-47s themselves easy targets for enemy AA. Neither the C-47 or the Ju 52 had self-sealing tanks so a single hit could be disastrous.
