Runway length?
« on: April 12, 2011, 11:14:58 PM »
Now im sure everyone knows this already, but will HTC be increasing the field sizes and runway lengths for the B-29 in the next update? i hope they do. i been planning to take more B-29 runs up. i normaly up them from bases with 0.0k alt and no trees around for miles and let her roll right off.

would still be nice. i do like the whines off people crashing their expecive B-29s into a tree and AKAKs sheep but when your the one that does its not as funny. lol even though i had it happen once. but curious if HTC or their map editors are working on more B-29 accesable maps and fields.

Maybe we need an Extra-Large base now!  :D

Kind of joking.  I mean, you take the risk when you up a B-29, it takes planning to successfully take up a flight.  However, having certain fields designed to handle these heavy bombers isn't unthinkable.  Just a few bases at the rear of a country.

Is there a way to tell which rnwy's are the longest now? Anyone have that info printed anywhere?

I got no problem taking a B-29 off a small runway with full ord and 100% fuel. Given that all you need is 25% fuel I can not understand why you can't take off.

The "corner" runways were always the longest.

I think it would be interesting, but generally speaking runways later in the war were LONG... Bombers, jets, those top-end speed demons all had longer runs (in general) than the earlier props that took off from grass fields.

I've almost run out of gas with 75% before and taken off with 100%.

I don't know how long late war runways were, and I wouldn't know where to start.  Anyone know where to find that information?

i believe the runways on tinian were 8000ft. we we could do with at least 8500ft runways.

Airbase objects occupy 1 square mile on the terrain.

Use a notch or two of flaps?
Any 5k airbases on the edge of a cliff?

75% gives you 125 min of fuel at max mower in MA.  :headscratch:

Depends where I'm going, but I've done plenty of flights over 125 minutes.

i normaly take 100% fuel with the B-29. last night i was being chased by a fighter from 111 all the way to 208 in sector 5.10 lol and if he has just kept following me i would have ran out of fuel i had like 18 mins of fuel before he bailed and left. anyways back on subject. i know its not a priorty for HTC but i really think they should increase the longer runways to 8500ft.

Just wondering here, as a band-aid type of fix for the map makers is it possible to connect 2 small airfields corner to corner to create a runway that is double the length of the typical runways now? Yes it would be two bases right next to each other but you could still just do a few like this towards the back of a country, similar to the placement of the Me163 bases.
The real problem is anyone should feel like they can come to this forum and make a wish without being treated in a derogatory manner.  The only discussion should be centered around whether it would work, or how it would work and so on always in a respectful manner.
