A lot of optimization for drag strip has been done that reduces driveability in other areas.

You know that they undid at least one sway bar, ran drag radials at low pressure, and sprung/shocked the specifically drag times.

Try driving a car in this configuation around town and it becomes a chore.

I'm not hating on the car, I build plenty of whipple 3.4 mustangs with 800hp and more as well as 2000+hp ford GT twin turbos but the car featured has more than just a little work done to it and has been specifically tailored to achieve the 9 second time.

i'm on my way out the door now, so i'll look again later tonight....but it didn't look like drag radials on the white one in the first video. it also didn't launch like it had the front swaybar undone.

besides drag radials, and megabite jr lower rear control arms, do you think anything else was done to the suspension on this car?

I just went through the article again.....these are the suspension mods......

Next, Evolution wanted to make sure that they could make use of all of that power, so they refined the suspension setup, utilizing items from their own catalog and Ford Racing. Ford Racing lower springs give the car a more aggressive stance in addition to helping the Mustang get out of the hole, working with Evolution’s own Upper Control Arms and Mounts, Billet Lower Control Arms and Adjustable Panhard Bar and Brace. A set of Mickey Thompson ET Street (DOT approved and street legal) tires wrap Black Weld RT-S Wheels and this setup affords this 2011 Mustang GT to pull a 60 foot time of 1.5 seconds. If you aren’t a seasoned drag racer…a 1.5 second 60 foot time is a serious launch for a street car.

the control arms aren't gonna hurt your ride. i know, 'cause that's all that was done to the stang in the previous post.

the springs, i don't think i'd have done, as every single vehicle i've ever installed lowering springs on(all imports, except for one dodge neon), rode like poop afterwards.

i may call them to find out what the "items from their catalog" were.
the panhard bar isn't gonna hurt the ride, or the driving performance. the mickey thompsons.......i've never used them. i went from bf goodrich drag radials, to nitto drag radials.....both hooked perfectly under 6,000rpm launches, and neither took away from my ability to corner on the street.

not bashing the car or the paper, but they say in the second paragraph under the first picture

"The output of the 2011 Mustang GT’s 5.0L V8 have been enhanced by the addition of the Ford Racing/Whipple supercharger that is offered by Ford Racing in either 525hp or 624hp variants but Evolution has set up their own package with this blower. The blower forces 12.5 pounds of boost into the stock 5.0L V8, with an upgraded throttle body, fuel pump system and fuel injectors feeding the engine."

then later on they say
"The overall result of the modifications made by Evolution Performance to Chris Cruz’s 2011 Ford Mustang GT California Special is an incredible 9.95 at nearly 143 miles per hour – with a STOCK engine and STOCK automatic transmission." third paragraph above video.

how is putting all that work into the engine, how does this make it a stock engine? maybe i read something horribly wrong, but last i knew "with an upgraded" means it is asftermarket and aids the car in horse power.no?

i'm thinking they meant stock internals. they simply bolted on a blower. and i think to run 12/5 pounds of boost is a LOT for a stock engine to handle.

on the tranny, they said they changed the torque converter, but otherwise left it alone....but it didn't sound like they were "stalling" the car on the line. sounded like they were launching off idle.

tro be honest....if i manage to afford a 2011 at the end of the year, like i'm trying.....these things run mid 12's right off the showroom floor. that's good enough for me. if i wanna go faster, i got the camaro for the track.

the car i pictured......i ran it with the a/c on......the WOT relay turned it off during the run, then coming back down the return road, i had good cooling again. no sweatin my bellybutton off in there.  :D

the only thing i'll miss, is that "lumpy" idle from the cam.

Ohh they are saying it ran that fast...   Sorry it was about a ford so I was thinking this was a post about how long one would run before breaking down. :P
To be honest though I feel this way about most modern cars, to much electronic bull crap in em for my taste.   I'm not a ford lover in the least but I'll take a 60's stang any day over this. :)

i've had quite a few 60's stangs....all coupes. 2 or 3 67's, a couple of 68's, and at one point, i had a 68 fastback, that i brought home in the back of my pickup truck, and the body on a flatbed. i never got that one finished.

part of what i like about the 011 mustangs(actually the 05 to present.....just the last couple years are the best looking) is that it looks like they tossed a 66 fastback, a 67 fastback, a whole bunch of sexy, and some modern into a blender(go figure, a sapp guy thinking of a blender), cracked that puppy up on plaid, poured it out....and the 2011 is the result.

i've gotten so dam spoiled by the handling of my modern cars, that i'd not drive one of the 60's ones as an every day driver. hell.....my 85 e-350 takes about half the turns on the road better than my 67 stang did. :noid

if i manage to get enough dough together, i'll be havin' an 011 the end of this year. i won't modify it though, with the exception of a good exhaust.
i've driven stockers that only run 16 second 1/4 miles, and i've driven 12 second cars, right on down into the 9/9's on a track car. to be honest, running mid/low 12's right off the showroom......good enough. i know what to do if i wanna go faster than that........

now i'm gonna hafta go look though....i don't think the camaros, chargers, or challengers are that fast though.........not sure.......

You'd be wrong.     The "Hemi" is not as durable, nor even remotely close to "THE Hemi's".    The ones nowadays have shoddy oil pans, this problem is also present in their "2/3/4/5.7 Garbage lineup".    I've driven the SRT8 from Livonia, MI to Naples, FL (umm, it was hopped up) when I worked for Roush.    I got to take it on a track down there and it's handling is horrid (a lot worse than a Mustang, or Camaro).    The Camaro handles the best of the three and I'm usually a Ford guy.

As for the Engines, ask CAP he works on and I dealt with them.   The Dodge customers deserve better and it's a damn shame.
